One thing I haven’t seen discussed yet is how Pool B stands so far. If I have my facts correct, there are 2 Pool B bids this year, and the only conferences in DIII without AQs are the Upper Midwest Conference (UMAC), the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC), and of course any independent teams are in Pool B as well. Does anyone have an idea of who the top contenders for those spots are at this point? Both the UMAC and NECC had major upsets in the semifinal round of their tournaments, with #1 UM-Morris and #2 Northland both losing in the UMAC, and #1 Daniel Webster going down in the NECC. Those were 3 of the top contenders, so I’m not sure who has a chance. #2 Lesley in the NECC made the conference finals, but lost to Daniel Webster twice, so that might hurt their chances. Chapman is always a factor in Pool B, but went 14-11 this year. Does anyone have an idea who still has a shot?
ncradio — great question. I think after Morris and Daniel Webster each lost this weekend that Chapman looks a lot stronger. They certainly have the best schedule of the group, although their record is the worst, no doubt.
Morris and D.Webster and Northland didn’t eliminate themselves by losing but that’s not helpful, to be sure. One of those teams winning out this weekend could well have put themselves over the top.
Wash U wins at Chicago 71-60 to take the UAA Automatic Bid.
Just a small correction. The NATHCON final is Benedictine AT Lakeland. It is not being played at CUW.
It would be really nice to see the #13 Univ of Puget Sound, UPS, be allowed to play in a different regional then George Fox, GFU. Last year George Fox surprised the country by going undefeated, yet the toughest game they played all year was against UPS. Again this year George Fox is outstanding and undefeated in the NWC and the only 3 losses that UPS suffered came against GFU. It would be really interesting to see how far UPS could get if they didn’t have to face GFU in the first round. I know it is more expensive to take care of the western teams, but please consider giving UPS a much deserved break.
