  1. Biggest surprise: the NCAA actually gets the records right. The only mistake is St. Thomas who is 23-0 overall (and 22-0 in-region).

My rankings missed Brandeis, Cabrini, and St. John Fisher, all at the bottom of the list for their respective regions.

Elmhurst, Carnegie Mellon and Brandeis are placed higher than my numbers would have projected; I would guess this is a by-product of the “results against ranked teams” factor coming into play given the number of tough games that they have played.

  2. Will UW-Platteville get penalized more versus the other WIAC teams due to the fact they have played more non-regional games?

  3. I think we see the results of that here but I don’t believe it will keep them out of the tournament even if they don’t win the WIAC tournament. It would behoove them to beat UWSP on Saturday, though.

I’ll be there to see if they can do it.

  4. Platteville doesn’t get penalized for playing fewer regional games.

Whitewater and Stevens Point have stronger regional non-conference schedules, which does make a difference. If Wooster and Anderson had been regional games, that would have helped Platteville but probably not enough.

The final head-to-head games (UWP-UWSP on 2/21 and whatever happens in the tournament) will probably decide the final order of these three.

  5. Still waiting on women’s rankings and I have to be away from the computer for a while. If someone sees them, please post them in a comment and I’ll add to the main message when I can.

  8. I believe all of the Scranton women’s games are in-region; didn’t notice it last week but it became apparent this week when they had 2 conference victories but only credit for 1 in-region.

  9. Platteville and Whitewater both lose tonight. Either Pville or Point will lose on Saturday, and at least 2 of them will lose next week. Is the WIAC 3 bid year in jeopardy…?

  10. What about Colby-Sawyer College getting some consideraton for being in the top 10 of the New England Regional Rankings? They are 18-5 (10-2 CCC), good enough for second place overall heading into next week’s conference tournament and have strong wins over the likes of Bowdoin, Gordon, Salve Regina, and close losses to #15 Middlebury, regionally ranked University of New England, and a solid Coast Guard team who made it to the elite eight last year.

  11. Couple reasons Colby-Sawyer isn’t ranked:
    – UNE is ranked #9 and is leading the conference. Can’t imagine Colby-Sawyer getting #10, especially when they have more regional losses than a team in ninth with three (at the time, now four).
    – Colby-Sawyer’s SOS (OWP and OOWP) is 346th in the country. Not very good at all. With that easy a schedule, there shouldn’t be five losses if Colby-Sawyer is that good a team.
    – The lose to Coast Guard doesn’t mean much. Last year’s Elite Eight run is not considered – the Guard lost a lot from that team – and Coach Guard is just 12-11 (11-11 in region) this season. So that LOSS to Coast Guard is not a plus.
    – Wins over Bowdoin, Gordon, and Salve Regina don’t mean much since none of them are ranked, either.

  12. Simplest answer: Colby-Sawyer equals University of New England plus 2 losses (as of Sunday). UNE was only ranked 9th. C-S is by my estimate at #18 in the region.

If they had three losses, like UNE, they would be ranked.

  13. with that said, do you think that they have a chance of recieving an at large bid if they win out the rest of the season, but lose in the CCC tournament championship game?

  14. No chance. UNE had a slim chance before losing to Gordon the other night. The CCC will get the Pool A bid only at this point.
