20 thoughts on “NCAA regional rankings, Week 2

  1. King’s and Lincoln each seem to be short a regional win (no idea which games are left out).

Washington’s overall record appears to include their D1 exhibition.

And we have the continuing saga of whether Hope-Carthage should be regional.

Only real question mark in the whole ratings is Hamilton ahead of St John Fisher and NYU. How? They trail both teams on QOWI and RWP.

  2. Can anyone explain how John Carrol men jump from 5 to 2 in the GL Region despite 5 losses? I know Hope lost last week by Witt, Woo, and Hope all have at least 2 fewer in region losses.

  3. Is this the final ranking? And are these the 58 teams that go into a post season? Is there only 58 teams for men? Thank you.

  4. DCHopeNut — I’ve posted the Quality of Wins index for each team next to the men’s rankings. You might find it useful in understanding the Great Lakes.

  5. I have finally found an instructive exmaple of how the QOWI can demonstrate the quality of a team in a quality conference.

The NESCAC is suspicious, because it has 6 other conferences in the region that with a few exceptions few else fear. However, the Great Lakes Region is full of Final Four veterans.

If JCU has split the season series (Home and Away) with 5 other teams whose in-region records are .667 or better, then JCU has gained 15 for the road win and 6 from the road loss or 14 for the Home win and 7 for the Road loss.

That gives an average of 10.50 points for each of those 10 games.

(In-Region records and QOWI values are in parentheses.) JCU has road losses to Wilmington (12-10, 5 pts), Greensboro (South Region, but same Geographical Region #3, 14-5, 7 pts) Heidelberg (12-9 5 points), Captial (15-7, 7pts) and a home loss to BW (12-6, 6 points).

  6. I would hope that that was a coordinated effort by the coaches and AD’s of the conference to use the criteria to boost the conference by selectively scheduling winnable games for all teams, in region and using the new Geographical Regions.

  7. What shirt? I just said I had an idea for a shirt. It is funnier than the original though… 😀

There’s a good chance I’m not coming to Salem. Esp if I can just watch the broadcast of it. You may have to get Jared to bake the cookies or something. But don’t worry, you guys will have fun without me, you always do. 😛

  8. wow… that was definitely on the wrong blog… oops! 😀

I think it’s interesting that Loras is below Oxy despite being below them on the two basic criteria. Why is that?

  9. One more thing… what`do you guys think happens to Elmhurst now that they’ve lost to North Central? Do they fall below Wheaton again?

  10. LEC’s too busy digging out of the snow to make any comments 🙂

Seriously though, as much as I disagree with the regional rankings in the Great Lakes, it’s setting up to be some great action throughout the first week of the playoffs. It’s really impossible to forecast a winner but I would say that the winner of the region will be battle-tested for future rounds!

  11. It’s kind of easy to say that who ever wins the region will be battle-tested. That is true every year from the Great Lakes and Mid-West.

  12. Missing two starters who avg a combined 26pts a game and 11 rebounds! Going to overtime with Behrend just shows how courageous our team is. We battled with a small lineup the whole night and it was unfortunate to see a questionable three point shot drop from the top of the key. We may get knocked down a couple times but we will always get back up. Good luck to all in the tournament! Gotta get ready for Frostburg. The AMCC is on the line.

  13. Can Someone explain how Transy is ranked ahead of Manchester in the Great Lakes ? Transy finishes 3rd in the HCAC. Manchester just went in to Rose-Hulman and took another win (64-62)from them inront of 1950 fans… way to go Spartans! HCAC Champions !

  14. First of all, remember, that’s a week old now.

As of last Sunday, Transylvania’s and Manchester’s numbers were comparable (they were next to each other on the QOWI listing) and they had split head-to-head. Don’t really know why they chose one over the other.
