This was the first question on Twitter:
mckay_adam: @d3hoops Why is F&M 15th overall but 5th regionally? What am I missing?
On checking the links above, F&M’s strength of schedule (.449) is 53rd of 61 Mid-Atlantic teams.
Who votes on the regional ranking or is it a computer system?
I am confused by the Northeast Reankings..
1. Albertus Magnus is 20-1 with victories over Becker and Western Connecticut; both of whom are ranked higher. I understand SOS, but sometimes you have to look at talent as well. The GNAC is a weak conference, but Albertus has one loss on a last second shot.
2. MIT is 20-1 and ranked 7; huh????? How is West Conn and East Conn and RIC ranked above them? I know no one expected MIT to be this good; but they are!
3. Tufts? I don’t care who they lost to; they have 6 losses. They should not be listed on any rankings..
It is a vote but the numbers generated by the computer are pretty heavily used. There’s a coach or AD from each conference. I am away from my desk, however, and can’t tell you who is on the Northeast committee.
I dont care about strength of schedule in this case. Albertus Magnus beat West Conn and Becker both. I know Albertus’s conference is weak this year but your trying to tell me that NECC that Becker is in is that much better? And right now Albertus is ranked 24th in entire country! The only teams that have the right to even be ahead of them in the NorthEast Rankings are Middlebury, MIT, and Amherst. You’re essentially saying that a team can be ranked higher nationally but not higher in their region. Strangest thing I have seen in a while. What else do these kids at AMC have to do to get a little respect? Keep winning and winning I guess, which is what they will do. Nobody knows how good they are because nobody cares. Its all about the NESCAC and Little East in this region. Will see what happends when the tournament rolls around.
Here is the NE Committee:
Dave Lindberg, Worcester State College, chair
Larry Anderson, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Paul Culpo, Castleton State College
Tom Devitt, Wentworth Institute of Technology
Travis Farley, Fitchbug State University
Bill Geitner, Eastern Connecticut State University
David Hixon, Amherst College
Aaron Galetta, Lasell College
Ed Sliva, Elms College
