Finally, let’s get started!

It’s finally time to play again, after five days off. Been a long week and I am definitely ready to get some games on again.

I just walked in at St. John Fisher and am getting logged on. It’s not as small as I anticipated, though it’s definitely a little cozy. Four rows of seating on the floor, about 10 rows in an upper level of seating on each side. Room for people to stand in the upper level in the corners.

Definitely good to not cram four teams’ worth of fans in here at once.

As I can, I will try to update from my perspective. I also hope you fans will comment along as to what you are hearing, or those of you live at games with blackberry or smartphone access can talk about what you’re seeing.

Let’s play!

  1. Some of the sites from the Luther regional…

Howard Payne fans are small in number, but in spirit or volume…snow on the ground in the hilly Winneshiek County county…teams warming up with UPS working a formal drill and HPU doing a more informal exercises.

Game time in about 18 minutes from Hawkeye Country.

  2. I listened to the 2nd and 3rd OT of the Lincoln-Guilford game. What a classic! And I know that VWU and Miss. College was supposed to be the “main event” of the evening, but those two top-5 ranked teams have a lot to live up to. It’s a shame that either team had to lose!

  3. I listened to the end of regulation and the first and most of the second overtime between games as we did a live “look-in” on NCAASports.com. Incredible.

  4. I’m surprised I’m not dragging after that one. I did not sleep well, but I still, somehow, how a voice after the third overtime.

If that game went to four OTs, I think Lincoln would have barely had a frontcourt.

Lincoln play tremendously. What an awesome, but tiring game.

  5. Guilfordwebcast – at least you got to stop talking after the third overtime… I still had another game ahead of me! Shockingly, it didn’t come CLOSE to that Lincoln/Guilford game. Too bad it wasn’t on TV… because that was an Instant Classic… plain and simple.

It was an honor to call that game and thanks to Mississippi College SID Chris Brooks for joining me. We must have exchanged at least a dozen “are you kidding me” looks during that game.

59 points from Strong… a banked 3 to tie the game at the buzzer… and two teams that simply wouldn’t give up… no matter how much they hurt and had NOTHING left.

    Hats off!

Interesting side note… VWC killed Lincoln with a last second three to end regulation and Lincoln’s hopes in the Sweet 16 last year at VWC.

Guilford hits a buzzer beater three to force the first overtime… and eventually ended Lincoln’s hopes in the Sweet 16 this year at VWC.

  6. I knew you all had to be hurting having to call another game.

I call games for Elon as well. This game reminded me of Elon’s men’s triple OT game with UNCG back in 2004 at Elon. That game wasn’t no where near as crazy as that one last night.

VA Wesleyan and Mississippi College produced what I thought was a let down. I mean, the first 11 minutes made it seem like it was going to be a good game, but the Marlins just went off….even without a hot shooting Ton Ton Balenga.

If this happens again tonight, so help me….I can’t take another triple overtime game.

  7. Howard Payne update.

The Abilene Reporter-News reported on the new basketball floor that HPU has purchased to install in the Brownwood Coliseum. Some ASC fans (myself included) wondered why #1 Seed HPU was sent to Decorah IA to play Puget Sound.

It now comes out that the 43-year-old basketball court, formerly used by the St Louis Hawks was considered unacceptable for HPU to host the Sectional.

Here is the hyperlink to the story. Congratulations to HPU on the investment.
