  1. Who knows! He might have omitted an “n”!

    Pungent Sound

    🙂

I am probably not the first to make that comment either. I am sure the Loggers have been called worse!

  2. We’re just copying and pasting what the NCAA sends. We had to fix Centre, too.

This is an annual problem. The NCAA doesn’t seem to care about the names of its schools.

  3. We’ll be posting travel accomodation information for Painesville, Ohio later for the Great Lakes fans. 😉

  4. Wow…. Wheaton is the second ranked CCIW team…. the Millikin coach is my new favorite person! 😀

I think it’s interesting that Loras was thrown in there, since they have some pretty bad regional losses. Do you guys think is it because they because the beat UW-Lax who has beaten higher ranked Oshkosh twice? Or was it a pure QOWI thing?

  5. If they had some “pretty bad regional losses,” it probably doesn’t help their QOWI. I’m guessing they supposedly had some pretty good regional wins…haven’t checked their schedule lately…or at all this year!

  6. Women’s just arrived.

As it said on the blog, sometimes the women’s are significantly later. Two years ago it was as late as Thursday.

  7. Oh come on now — they were leading on Sunday when the rankings are through. Tied with Cal Lu and leading the head-to-head tiebreaker.

If you have to wait 24 hours to post a comment because you’re waiting for it to become true, that’s usually a sign you should just hold onto it. 🙂

  8. “Winning-streak length” is not one of the criteria used in the regional ranking process. Regional record is, and Capital’s regional record is the seventh-best in the Great Lakes. I don’t know the QoWIs involved, but splitting with both B-W and Wilma (who also split their series) means someone is going to be left out. It looks to me that it was probably pretty close between Capital and B-W for that 6th spot.

Anyway, Calvin has won 17 straight, Denison 15 straight, and DePauw 18 of their last 19. At least on paper, this is a very tough region, one that has produced two of the past three national champions.

  9. Lake Erie #1? Sorry, but I just can’t buy that. Yeah, they’re undefeated but who have they beaten? I’d rather see the Woo-Witt NCAC Championship Game winner get the #1 seed.

  10. Obviously there are some people out there who are scared of Lake Erie College. We havn’t played anyone? What? What drugs are you on? We won the Rochester tournament! Cmon. We pummel anyone who plays us. We have the best D-fense in all of Ohio. Our players are in tip-top shape and they understand how to press and rotate. They have mastered the art of comebacks as well. Nothing brings them down! They can go 11 deep and not miss a beat. Witt can’t, neither can Woo. Bring on whoever! The Lake Erie Storm are for real and we will continue to stay humble and play as a cohesive unit!

  11. The Rochester game — one game out of 22 — is the only one that means a thing on the national scene. It is probably the reason Lake Erie is even getting Top 25 votes.

We pummel anyone who plays us. We have the best D-fense in all of Ohio.

followed by … wait for it …

we will continue to stay humble

  12. Exactly, That is a TRUE contradiction that I have stated. Someone has to step up and let people know that we are for real. We will take care of biusness and we will stay humble. Am I a bit fired up? Yes, and I feel that we are being looked at as dirt. You just keep adding fuel to the fire baby. Oh yeah, what team are you riding on? How many losses do they have? If your team is so great then why are they not undefeated? See the difference from LEC and the rest of the field is….. We can beat teams in so many different ways. We have so many different weapons. We have five seniors who have experienced some low times as freshman and dealt with a lot of adversity that helped them to be strong-willed, and strong-minded. We are not cocky, we are very confident! Let the games begin Pat Coleman.

  13. Are you on the team? You’re saying “we” an awful lot.

Also, I’m sure most of the teams in the GL Region could beat the teams on “your” schedule in “many different ways.” In the words of Ivan Drago, “You will lose.”

  14. I use the word “WE” b/c “WE” are all about family and community. “WE” are a close nit group. “WE” love to be the underdog so we prove everyone wrong. Faculty, staff, students, fans, alumns, “WE” are all one! I am an ex-player and a proud supporter of my college. In the words of the great Billy Joel, “We didn’t start the fire”, But “WE” will strive to put it out and finish it with another Championship as well as another trip to the Dance!

  15. So you don’t actually play on the team. I’ve never been a fan of people using the word “we” when they aren’t a member of the team. If “we” aren’t sweating it out in practice and workouts, “we” don’t get to share the glory.

Anyway, before you go about “proving everyone wrong” you might want to remember that the teams you’ve beaten in “many different ways” have a combined record of 146-182…and there are several downright awful teams on it. If LEC was in a conference with a few good teams in it, I have a feeling “WE” wouldn’t be having this argument.

See you in the tournament…or maybe not, because that probably would require the Storm to get out of the first round.

  16. “WE” are a close nit group.

That is absolutely the LOL of the week for me. 😀

I recall similar posturing last year, just before Wittenberg picked the Nits in the first round of the tournament, 76-40. I wish the Nits better luck this year.

I was going to mention how familiar this all sounded too, but you beat me to it David! I guess some people just never learn…

  18. I put five yrs of blood, sweat and tears into our program. Obviously you all have never played college basketball or even been a part of a team (family). Why did Wooster lose to Wittenburg? If they are so tough then they should beat the tough teams just as well as the easy teams. Don’t hate b/c we are 21-1.=:) Yep, I cannot wait to see you @ the dance.

  19. Oh Diesel1 just stop already!

“I put five yrs of blood, sweat and tears into our program. Obviously you all have never played college basketball or even been a part of a team (family). Why did Wooster lose to Wittenburg? If they are so tough then they should beat the tough teams just as well as the easy teams. Don’t hate b/c we are 21-1.=:) Yep, I cannot wait to see you @ the dance.”

Five years and you don’t play on the team? Sounds like a team manager or a lowly assistant. But, I certainly don’t want to upset the “we”.

I have been part of many teams… playing, participating, working for, etc. but I would never say “we” unless I was actually playing or coaching – or if I was relating it to D3hoops.com, who I work for/with.

Why did Wooster lose to Wittenburg… its called a rivalry game. Look up the word “rivalry” and you might understand why Wittenberg beats Wooster/Calvin beats Hope/Millikin beats Elmhurst. What rival have you beaten… wait, that can’t work because “you” are so good that you can’t lose and I suspect that truely there is no rival!

In other words, you might be a good team, but a rival can still beat you because there is more than just execution of plays involved in the game (heard of emotions?).

And by the way… bad example of Wooster’s loss to Wittenberg… because Wittenberg is NOT an “easy” team as you allude to.

And no one is hating the “teams” 21-1 record… they are hating the fact you think you are better than some of the best teams in this country but playing one of the easiest schedules.

Trust me, “we” can’t wait to see you @ the dance… because I once said to Buena Vista… “prove me something, you haven’t proven me anything”. BVU has yet to prove anything!

  20. Does anyone else think its odd that “we” as in Depauw University are in the South region as Men and Great Lakes as women? Why is that?

  21. I also think this is odd. Both the men’s and women’s SCAC (DePauw’s conference) have been granted exceptions to the “one conference, one region” rule (other exceptions have been given to the UAA, AMCC, NEAC, and AWCC), but only the women use it, placing DePauw in its “natural” geographic region (Great Lakes.) I don’t know what the rationale is to use the exception for the women but not the men.

  22. SCAC isn’t the only one… another conference with similiar initials has the same deal.

The CAC is in the Mid-Atlantic Region for men’s basketball and in the Atlantic Region for women’s basketball.

Thanks to the 200 mile rule and this year’s fact that there is a “larger” region (administrative), there usually isn’t any problems with “in region” games.

  23. One final word on LEC. This reminds me very much of 2 years ago when John Carroll was lucky enough to host Bethany in a first round tourney game. Before the game Bethany’s student broadcasters asked me, “What do you think, should be a good game, huh?” Having watched film of Bethany’s conference championship win I responded with, “Honestly guys, I think it’s going to be a bloodbath. If JCU doesn’t win by 20 I’ll be surprised.” They asked why, and I explained that at least the top 7 teams in the OAC would be able to compete for a PAC title. It comes down to this: A sparkling record is nice…but I’d much rather be 18-7 with a tough, tournament quality schedule. Just look at what happened last year…”you” dominated a weak conference only to get stomped by a far superior team in the first round of the playoffs. Why is this year any different?
