Good news from Salem

I just got back yesterday from the Stagg Bowl, the Division III football championship game which is played in Salem. The teams’ annual banquet is held in the Civic Center, site of the Division III men’s basketball Final Four.

The Civic Center is going through some upgrades. The new seats, which went into the side of the arena with the benches last season, are now on both sides of the arena. The old sound studio-style brown acoustic tiles are no longer part of the decor and have been replaced by blue padding on each wall. And there’s a new scoreboard, which wasn’t completely installed when we were there but will be in plenty of time for March.

All of us who primarily inhabit the Hoops site welcome this post which we know signals the shift of focus from our younger, if larger brother site at d3football to your first love, D3hoops.com.

    Welcome home Patrick!

I don’t know about you, Coach, but I derived some (possibly false) hope from the fact that Pat spent a long weekend watching hoops in Texas while there were playoff football games going on in other parts of the country. :)

I’m new to the d3hoops site, but not to the d3football site where I have posted often. Upon review of the top 25 teams, I am extremely excited not to see Mount Union listed.

I saw more basketball games during the football playoffs than I saw football games. Twice as many, in fact.

Ahh, forgot to mention: They are replacing the backboards as well with backboards that light when the buzzer goes off. There will also be a three-face shot clock on top for fans’ and players’ convenience.

I knew Pat had been seeing a lot of hoops lately, but I also knew the crossover time to be a very hard time for him. Glad it’s over.

That’s good. I was there last year watching Illinois Wesleyan and the brown tiles were just brutal to look at.
