Saturday’s second-round action

Well… we all made it through a nasty winter storm here in Danville, KY. At one point last night, it was sleeting so hard here, you looked like it was pouring sleet. 6″ plus fell around here and this morning not much was happening and many places were closed. However, this afternoon turned into a beautiful, sun filled on here in central Kentucky – though, north of here is anything but!

Second bit of good news… we are good to broadcast tonight. I won’t get into the whole thing, but blame the Chinese… yes, the country and hackers from there.

Anyway, we will be on the air and the broadcast will be simulcast to the Hall of Fame Cafe and I believe the on-campus TV channel so those Centre fans that can’t make the game, will be able to see, and tonight, hear the game!

We are about 40 minutes from tip-off of what should be a very good game between two very different teams. Centre is guard based and doesn’t rely on the inside game. OWU, the opposite, the inside game is what beat Heidelberg last night. I am looking forward to a great game… and I am looking forward to broadcasting it!

Final note, just met “Old Student Athlete” who came up and introduced himself. Nice to put faces to names on the post-up boards!

  1. It appears that the second-round women’s matchup of Brockport St. and William Smith has been put off until tomorrow.

  2. Three women’s finals are already in the books: homestanding Amherst nips Bowdoin 61-60; homestanding Mary Washington upends TCNJ 56-50, but Tufts drops Mt. St. Mary 54-38 on the Knights’ floor.

  3. Oops…Amherst wasn’t at home, they were at Bridgewater St. Sorry for the mixup as well as the treble post.

  4. WashStL (Lady Bears) 33, DePauw 32 WashU took its first lead on Ft’s at 0:04.3 left.

  5. LISTENING FROM FORT MYERS FL. SON SCOTT PLAYED FOR BOTH OF THESE COACHES AT CENTRE. GO CENTRE

  6. it is loud in indianola at Simpson where the storm are up 30-27. Not only are the simpson students loud but the Blugolds have come out in force and are matching the home students in volume. 3:40 in the first half.

  7. HPU leads 33-20. 3:20 left. HPU has shot 18 FT’s, McM 3 FT’s. The difference in the game is entirely FT’s made at this time.

  8. Point leads BV 27-24. Point getting a LOT of open looks, not knocking down too many. Shooting 31%, very easily could be more IMO.

  9. Final from Centre… OWU 82-Centre 63.

Score really doesn’t tell the story. This was a very close game, but OWU’s tough defense was the big story – Centre had tons of trouble against the 2-3 very extended defense that OWU through at them.

I will post more about this on Sunday, since I want to get on the road and start working my way back to Baltimore… however, I want to say publically that Centre’s staff was wonderful. Mike, the SID and baseball coach did a fine job here. He, along with his Asst’ James (also the Volleyball coach) did everything they could to make my job easier, along with every body elses. I appreciate it to no end and I will always look forward to any return trips I may have to Danville, KY in the future.

Now to the road – thank God the storm has moved away!

  10. strong defensive showing from both sides going into the second half, its hard to tell what is being chanted by the Simpson cheerleaders as the Eau Claire fans are out chanting them during the media timeout. 41-37 simspsn 15/28 2nd

  11. Eau Claire came out of that timeout asleep at the wheel and Simpson has gone on a 25-6 run. 66-23 7:02.

  12. Women’s score:

    #24 Oglethorpe 65
    #3 Thomas More 55

1st loss of the season for Thomas More

    Go Petrels!

  13. Final from Crestview Hills as Oglethorpe ends Thomas More’s perfect season with a 65-55 win.

  14. Just want to thank you Dave and D3 for the fine audio tonight. For one familiar with the gym and fans of Centre, you did a good job of reflecting the atmosphere to those of us listening. One correction – the building housing the Alumni Gym is Sutcliffe, not Schaeffer. Not a big deal, but you’ll know next time you do a broadcast from Centre. Thanks again.

  15. WW by 7 0:35 and shooting FT’s. Both good. Whitworth by 9, 79-70.

    Oxy scores.

Whitworth to the line with 0:16.9 secs. Whitworth at the line, both good. 81-72.

Oxy Conti (sp) scored 3FG. 81-75.

Whitworth FT 2-2; Whitworth 83-75. Final.
