It’s Madness I Tell You (Friday Games)

I pride myself in being objective, but yesterday, I just couldn’t help myself.

I was broadcasting Coast Guard-Trinity from high atop courtside, and in the excitement of the moment, during one timeout, I started bopping up and down, like a jumping bean. My broadcast partner (a Coast Guard lieutenant) teased me about it, as did the columnist for one of the local papers, but I didn’t really care.

If you’re a fan, that’s what today is all about. If you’re going to a game, enjoy the madness. If you’re following one of the games today at home, you can do it too (so what if you’ll look a little silly).

I’m in charge of the scoreboard today, and I’ll be trying to file reports here from time to time, while prepping for my next game. If you wanna chime in on what you see or hear, feel free to do so here.

  1. Halftime there

    CNJ 31, Bridgewater 23

An interesting sectional with two amazing centers in CNJ’s Hillary Klimowicz and Mary Washington’s Liz Hickey. Klimowicz has five blocks in first half, exactly what you’d expect from someone who was A-10 rookie of the yr two years ago…

  2. very questionable charging call on the Blu golds has given the Knights a 25-20 edge. 4:08 remaining in the half.

  3. eau claire came charging out. Of the gates following a carleton timeout to pull within one… And I need ear plugs now after a very loud whistle two feet away. Eau Claire is using fast breaks to set the pace they are now on an eight-zero run.

  4. looks like Eau Claire is taking a 8-0 run into the locker room. I am trying to get confirmation.

  5. Good game here, Scranton got off to an early lead but Elms forced a couple turnovers with the press and it’s been back and forth ever since. 32-30 Elms at the break.

  6. Eau Claire ramps the run to 15 unanswered forcing a clock violation and many desperate shots by Carleton. 35-25 16:27

  7. first great comeback of the day. Brandeis rallies from 15 down to beat Southern Maine, 74-71.

  8. Chicago jumped out to a 17-0 lead against UWSP. Point has battled back and Chicago has helped with a bunch of TO’s, now it’s 19-11. Point is 1/5 from the FT line.

At Augie, WashU leads Wooster 23-18

At WW, Larry U leads Wheaton 19-12

  9. Elms opened up a nine-point lead with a 10-1 run here late in the second half. Seven point game now with 6:13 left.

  10. Point leads 23-21, on a 23-4 run, with the ball. Make that a 26-4 lead, Hicklin hits the three, 26-21.

  11. Point up 29-24. Ross Rortvedt hit a three after a steal. Point had just thrown it away with 4 seconds left, but Ross solidifies Point’s lead and their 29-7 run to end the half after Chicago led 17-0!

Larry U leads Chicago 30-23 with just under 3 mins. Raymond held to 4 thusfar.

At Whitewater, WashU leads Wooster 34-27. Wash U led by as much as 13, but Wooster cut it to two. Ruths has 17 at the half.

  12. Wheaton on a run, Larry U up 34-33 at the half. Panner and Weile both have 8. Panner hit two 3’s in the last two mins to help cut Larry’s lead. LU shooting 58% from the field, Wheaton 51%. The hoops look HUGE at Whitewater right now!

  13. Ruths has 21 and Wash U leads Wooster 46-38. 13:00 left, second half.

Wooster has a few too many turnovers, and Cooper only has 6, but not as far down as I might have expected with how sloppy they have been at times.

  14. All of a sudden, it’s 46-44 Wash U as James Cooper has hit four straight three pointers! Wow, we are going to miss him in our lineup next season.

  15. 59-56 Wash U leads with 6:06 to go.

Wooster’s Bryan Wickliffe has just fouled out. Ruths has 26. Cooper has 17, all in the second half.

  16. Point wins by 14 after trailing 17-0. WOW.

Larry U and Wheaton are tied at 62, Raymond 2/13 from the floor, Weile with 22, Panner with 17 for Wheaton, Kroeger with 21 for Larry U. 3:24 to go.

  17. Wash U 79
    Wooster 74

    Final

Wooster’s season ends at the hands of the Bears for the second straight season.

  18. ugly game between simpson and gustavus. 28-15 3:01 remaining simpson lead. This Storm team is like the ones before it: a full-court press and fast break machine.

  19. Point wins 67-53 against Chicago at St. Thomas, playing winner of UST/BV tomorrow night!

  20. I’m waiting for the Point website for a women’s score… Chicago was up late by 3 against UST women, and it’s over now (Point women lead 9-8 at the moment)

  21. LU/Wheaton in OT Wheaton leads by 3. Raymond has come alive, now with 15, Weile with 26. Hurley and Page with 14 in addition to 21 from Kroeger.

Wheatn up 5 now, 80-75, under 2 mins in OT.

  22. second half turnaround it is an eight point game as the gusties take a full timeout 44-36 11:03 Simpson’s lead.

  24. Millsaps’ Lorenzo Bailey has just hit his first points of the game, back-to-back 3FG’s to boost the Millsaps lead to 60-48 over Maryville TN.

  25. Millsaps 71 Maryville 63, 2 minutes left. Edrick Montgomery has 18 points in the second half for the Majors.
