Good read: Being tough

Steve Solloway’s column in Sunday’s Portland Press Herald is a must-read. It provides heart-tugging insight into what it’s like for college students with what’s going on in the world these days.

  1. WOW! What a great piece. To be able to play at the level they do with the other things going on in their lives is pretty amazing. Without using too many cliche’s it does really help you keep things in perspective. Outside of being college athletes a lot of these young men and women are affected by what goes on in the world. Some in pretty intense ways. When most of our focus this time of the year is on wins and losses, here is a group of young ladies who are concerned about the games they play but in the back of their minds know that life has a whole lot more meaning outside the 94ft. It truly is a tribute to them for the focus that they have. I’m sure they would all deflect the attention however to their loved ones serving to protect us. Even at this level, it speaks volumes about the dedication of these athletes to be able to play at the level they do with so much else on their minds. I wish the best to USM the rest of the way and more importantly I hope for the safety of their loved ones. Pat, thanks for passing on the article.

  2. hey just trying to catch up on great site. reading some of past blogs. the one about coach davis at latourneau was, i repeat , a direct shot at libertys head coach. look at liberty this year as opposed to the last three. you will reap what you sow.

  3. not hindsight when you were there and saw what was happening, just trust me and keep watching the two programs and see who fares better in the long stretch.

  4. That’s all fine and dandy. But we don’t cover Liberty, so find a blog who does and talk about it there. 🙂
