I’ve had enough turkey sandwiches to last another year, and spent enough time in airport security lines to take me just about as long, so let’s try to summarize a whole weekend of games, right?
As always, audience participation is not only welcome, it’ll be necessary. Because I’m out of town for a few days after a death in the family, so I haven’t much time to ponder what happened this weekend.
Sorry. The floor is open.
We will still have a Top 25 poll, hopefully tonight.
Pat, I’m sorry to hear of a death in your family.
My condolences as well.
My immediate thought is “look out for Wittenberg.” The 10th ranked Tigers went down to Lexington, KY and spoiled HCAC-favorite Transylvania’s home opener, 62-51. Witt has already beaten Rochester at Rochester and thumped Capital by 19 at home. Witt’s 4-0 start compares favorably to the past two Tiger teams, both of which were juggernauts when they got it figured out:
2002-03: Preseason ranking #22, Witt starts a meek 4-3, losing to UW-Eau Claire (which goes on to finish 11-15), at home to Otterbein (20-7), and at NAIA rival Cedarville (27-9, final NAIA-2 ranking #9), but then rips off 20 in a row. Losses to Wooster and John Carroll end the season with Witt at 24-5 and ranked #14.
2003-04: Preseason #10, starts 5-2 (losses to 16-9 Wash U and at 13-12 Denison), then wins 20 of 21. Another NCAA loss to JCU leaves the Tigers at 25-4 and #9.
The 4-0 start this season compares favorably, especially against good competition on the road. If the Tigers have trouble only with their first 7 games (and JCU), it must be noted that their next 3 games are vs. Denison, at Cedarville (NAIA-2 preseason #5) and at #3 Wooster. If they run this gauntlet, there may be people in the Survivor Pool that will wish they had picked D3’s winningest program.
My condolences as well, Pat.
Please accept mine as well. Your family will be in my prayers.
Pat:
Please accept my condolences on your family’s loss. I pray God’s strength for you and your family.
