I’m as eager for the start of basketball as the rest of you, but to be honest, I could really use another week. We got really poor, in my opinion, help from schools on schedules this year, so we’re still catching up on those. Although we got the Top 25s out earlier than our target date, the preseason All-America teams were slower than usual. One of those is still on our plate.
I love Division III basketball, but why does tipoff have to overlap with the start of football playoffs? I can’t find enough time in the day to get everything done as it is, and now with three kids in the house I’m finding it harder and harder to get time to work on the sites.
I have a tech guy who is holding up the process, who can never make a deadline, and since I’m related to him I have to play nice. He has a to-do list that’s pretty long, which we may never get to. Some of the things have been on the list for more than a year.
And now I’m griping to you, the reader, which probably isn’t the best thing either. But I write to tell you this — although it looks like we might not be doing much on the site this time of year, it just isn’t true. What we’re doing is a bunch of behind-the-scenes work, getting the schedules (still) into the system, making sure score reporting works correctly. Dave McHugh is working on getting Hoopsville warmed up and ready to go, starting a week from now, almost a week to the minute from the time this post goes up. So I ask your patience. This isn’t the only job for any of us, and my full-time job has gotten a lot fuller in the past 12 months, as well as my house.
Stay tuned. We’ll get there.
I agree, Pat; the football season is definitely too long. 😉
Keep up the good work, and be sure to make time for family. Most of us understand and appreciate all you do, and those that don’t can just go…well, away.
Pat, you have a free pass from all of us.
I can’t imagine Division III basketball anymore without this site…your efforts are appreciated by the entire D3 community.
Pat, I agree with the others. You guys do great work. I understand your position. My wife just gave birth to twins a few weeks ago bringing our number to 3 as well. I know the craziness you live. Plus, you know what my wife does, so time is a premium in our household as well. Us diehards will understand that you have other responsibilities and will always be grateful for, and impressed with, all you do for D3 hoops and football.
Pat, I echo titanq. I was a fan of DIII athletics since I can remember, growing up in Wooster, but these sites you have established have really taken my passion for it to a new level (especially basketball). Keep up the great work!
Pat what would the D3 football community think about taking out the bye week during the regular season and shortening up the regular season to start the playoffs a week sooner? Would that make things work easier for you guys in getting the basketball season kicked off right?
The coverage on this site is top notch keep up the great work.
Heh — that would be great, but I don’t think that’s likely to happen. There might be more talk about starting the basketball season later — Coach C, what was the last on that?
Thanks to everyone for the words of encouragement. I just want to point out, I’m not talking about the sites going away, I’m just very frustrated that I can’t seem to get done what it takes to do the job the way I want to.
Pat – I agree with all my fellow posters – both sites keep me going through those long weeks of work.
I think I know the answer to this before I ask, but I’ll ask anyway – is there anything that we can do to help you? I know it’s been offered in the past, but if $$ is an issue, just say so.
DC – The football season is NEVER too long! Especially this year….heee!
FDF,
Money isn’t an issue. It’s time, now. We may be trying to do too much.
Pat –
you are the best. Don’t get crushed in the grind. It’s always bad this time of year, but shortly that other sport willl take a long winter’s nap before starting illegal spring practices. Then the warriors of the hardwood will wallk tha campuses of our nation as gods and all will again be right with the world.
And you may get more than five hours of sleep.
As for shortening the season, there is sentiment among at least one segment of the membership that the hoops season at D3 is too long and should not commence until aget football. These would also be college presidents who don’t let their teams take Poll C bids. I really don’t think it is likely to pass, but stranger things have happened.

Coach C:
The “warriors of the hardwood will walk the campuses of our nation as gods ….” Have you maybe overdosed on the purple hyperbole pills? 🙂
Nah – it was the greenies that got me!
