ATN Podcast: Wide-open conferences

Birmingham-Southern
So far Birmingham-Southern (and running back Joseph Moultrie) have made Keith’s preseason prediction look pretty good.

If it wasn’t on your radar before, Dubuque better be now. Similarly Birmingham-Southern. And definitely Louisiana College. But Muskingum? Augsburg? UW-Oshkosh?

For all of the expected that happened on Saturday, Mount Union rolling, Mary Hardin-Baylor beating Hardin-Simmons, etc., there was plenty of unexpected. And Keith McMillan and Pat Coleman talk about both in this week’s Around the Nation podcast. Hear what they think about the upcoming clash between UMHB and Louisiana College, about the Iowa Conference race, the Empire 8 and the SCAC. Does UW-Platteville or UW-Oshkosh have a shot to knock off Whitewater? How many tangents will Pat and Keith go on in this 56 minutes of Division III football analysis? And how many times will they project out the rest of the regular season and talk playoffs?

For a better indication of how many teams they talk about each week, check the tags list at the bottom of the file.

ATN Podcast: Time to re-evaluate?

Ohio Northern
Ohio Northern survived an upset bid by Otterbein, setting up an interesting conundrum for the people who like to play comparative scores.

If you like playing the comparative scores game, you know, where X beat Y by 3 and Y beat Z by 3, therefore X would beat Z. But just try to wrap your mind around the direct correlation between Ohio Northern and Gallaudet, each of whom played Otterbein at home and went to overtime. Or figure out what to make of Hardin-Simmons … beating Willamette … which lost a close game to UW-Stevens Point … which got shut down by UW-Platteville … etc.

It gets even more complicated. Thankfully Keith McMillan and Pat Coleman can make at least some sense of it in this week’s Around the Nation Podcast.

ATN Podcast: Too soon to panic

St. John's
St. John’s got routed at home in Week 2, but it’s not over for the Johnnies yet.

That was a butt-kicking that St. John’s got, at home, on Saturday when UW-Eau Claire came in and beat the Johnnies 47-19. But although that loss is certainly demoralizing, as was Coe’s at Olivet Nazarene and even Wesley’s at Kean, this week isn’t the end of anyone’s season. Pat Coleman and Keith McMillan talk through what’s left in front of them and what teams with an early loss have cost themselves in this week’s Around the Nation Podcast.

Plus, many other teams and games are touched on — see the tags at the bottom for an idea of who is discussed.
