ATN podcast: Re-drawing the Top 25

UW-Whitewater, Aaron Rusch and Jason FordRe-evaluating the Top 25, or, also known as, how did Central drop nine spots? Coe’s loss to Wartburg had an effect beyond those two teams, while losses by Cortland State, Randolph-Macon and Alfred certainly helped the reshuffling effort.

Why wasn’t Wartburg ranked to begin with? How did they end up at No. 13? Who else is underranked? That and more in this week’s Around the Nation podcast. Plus, Pat Coleman got to see UW-Whitewater play in person next week and gives his take on what he saw, plus gets coach Lance Leipold’s evaluation of his team at the midway point of the Whitewater season (that is, if the Warhawks are planning to play 15 games once again).

ATN Podcast: Eliminated already

Eliminated from the postseason in Week 6? That’s where a handful of recent playoff teams and prominent playoff hopefuls find themselves this week. Meanwhile, there’s a handful of quiet unbeaten teams sitting under the radar. Why haven’t they gotten a chance?

We dig inside the box score to look at results for Mount Union and Mary Hardin-Baylor that might be seen as misleading, plus look at the big Week 6 upsets. And Pat hit the road this week for a pair of games, seeing something new at each stop: an unusual halftime attraction and a shot at redemption in the closing seconds at William Paterson while a senior quarterback gets asked to reinvent himself with five games left in his career at Merchant Marine.

Game Day: Will there be a letdown?

It’s hard to imagine there being much of a letdown from the teams that won big games last week, although we tried in this week’s Triple Take.

Last week I saw an epic St. Thomas-St. John’s game in front of 16,000-plus fans. This week I’ve been in New York for business purposes and while I’m here, trying to take in a couple teams I haven’t seen yet: Morrisville State and WPI. They’re not playing each other, though. I’ve seen their opponents and their opponents’ home stadiums, as Morrisville is playing at William Paterson and WPI is at Merchant Marine.

Meanwhile there are many other more interesting games out there, although our regular contingent of Wesley posters might not have much of a battle to talk about today. Top-ranked UW-Whitewater has an interesting home game against 3-1 UW-Stout. No. 5 Mary Hardin-Baylor has a loss to avenge from last year when it hosts Mississippi College. Augustana has a chance for a signature win to go with its signature loss this season, if it can take down No. 7 North Central. Hampden-Sydney and Bridgewater has long been a battle that sets the tone in the OAC.
