ATN podcast: Implications already

Good week of games, Week 1, right?

Well, yes and no. We had some good games, especially with Willamette and UW-Stevens Point stepping up to the challenge and playing each other in a key early-season game, even though the NCAA last year made it clear such scheduling would not be rewarded.

Keith McMillan and Pat Coleman also talk about the interesting quarterback situations at Wesley and St. Thomas, two would-be national title contenders. They give their take on which conferences had particularly bad first weekends, congratulate a team that well outdid expectations (No. 219 beating No. 154), and a couple teams that almost did as well.

ATN podcast: Welcome to 2010

There’s one question that’s on pretty much everyone’s mind when it comes to the Division III football season: Can Mount Union and UW-Whitewater do it again, after meeting in the Stagg Bowl for each of the past five seasons?

The bad news? Sure, they can. But will they? That’s what we should really be asking. And in the first podcast of the 2010 season, Around the Nation columnist Keith McMillan and D3football.com executive editor Pat Coleman ask that question, and talk over the possible answers. Plus, get a preview of where you can find our gurus on the road this season and more.

Gameday: Derailing the inevitable

When we closed our Stagg Bowl 36 broadcast in December 2008, we thought Mount Union and UW-Whitewater would be back to Salem this year. We picked them as the top teams in the preseason and all the way through today. This is the last stop along the way toward the “inevitable.”  Except it isn’t inevitable. Wesley and Linfield can derail the anticipated re-re-re-rematch and we’ve got it covered a variety of ways.  Check out the front page if you haven’t already for all kinds of links to audio, video, livestats (off the scoreboard) and features leading up to today’s games.

Then at 12 pm EST tune into John McGraw and Keith McMillan in Alliance for Mount Union/Wesley and, an hour later, Pat Coleman and Joe Davis in Whitewater for UW-Whitewater/Linfield.

And all along the way, feel free to sound off on the games here.
