When you don’t have to quibble about the 32 teams that made the field, that eliminates a lot of the Selection Sunday hand-wringing. Of course, just because we didn’t think Wabash, or UW-Oshkosh, or St. Thomas or others deserved to make the field doesn’t mean they didn’t have a case to be made. Pat and Keith discuss their cases. Did Johns Hopkins get screwed by having to face Wesley in the first round or is it a fair matchup? Where should Maryville have gone instead of Hampden-Sydney? Triple Take: Rivalry week 2013

The Hampden-Sydney/Randolph-Macon game always draws a crowd. This year it’s also a winner-take-all game for the ODAC title.

If you’ve never been affiliated with a school that has an intense, no-love-lost rivalry, you’re missing out on one of the sweeter things in life. Because when game time comes, there’s something absolutely all-consuming about how you feel about your team and what you’d like to do to those on the “other team.”

Many teams will be feeling that this weekend, capping the season against their archrival. And if the playoffs are not on the horizon, Week 11 can spell one last chance to make the season memorable by taking home the Bridge Bowl Trophy or Monon Bell or Cortaca Jug or Regents Cup or any of the many other prizes out there.

This week highlights the rivalries, but there’s more to this week than that. With Selection Sunday coming up, there’s so much to play for.

ATN podcast: Road trips, memory lane, playoff chase

Pat Coleman and Keith McMillan both went out on the road this week, with Pat taking one of D3football.com’s Best road trips and Keith taking in his 15th class reunion. It’s a good look at a handful of Division III campuses and programs that runs the gamut from the return of UW-Whitewater to prominence to what D-III looked like 15 years ago. Has your campus changed? Keith McMillan and Pat Coleman take a look at in this week’s Around the Nation podcast.

In terms of playoff hopes, those of St. Thomas and Wesley took big hits this past weekend. Dubuque’s playoff hopes rose, obviously, by beating Coe. Some other teams’ hopes improved and a lot of games have yet to be played. Lots of teams talked about, and you can see them listed in the tags at the bottom.
