ATN Podcast 174: Evaluating the surprise winners

We certainly spent some time talking about teams that have lost unexpectedly through the first two weeks: UW-Whitewater, St. Thomas, UW-Whitewater again, Thomas More to name a few. But in this week’s D3football.com Around the Nation Podcast, Pat Coleman and Keith McMillan turn their attention to the teams that won those surprise games, where they began the season, what we should have expected and how that expectation changes.

Pat and Keith run through all the top news, the hidden highlights, the risers and sliders, the quick hits and quick misses and more from the week in Division III football. Plus, Luke Ravenstahl is no longer mayor of Pittsburgh and Millikin last started 2-0 in 2012. If you listen to this week’s podcast, you’ll understand.

The D3football.com Around the Nation Podcast is a regular conversation between Pat Coleman and Keith McMillan and guests covering the wide range of Division III football. During the season, it hits your feed weekly on Monday morning. This week, we thank Fanraise for sponsoring our podcast.

ATN Podcast: Top 25, blue turf, new bowls, how you can help

Hey, we know, we didn’t have a May podcast. That’s totally because we planned to bring you an extra-long podcast in July. Yes, we have a podcast and a half for you because there’s way too much to talk about. Pat Coleman and Keith McMillan give their take on the D3football.com preseason Top 25, first off.

Also, that blue turf just looks too cool, doesn’t it? Luther College is having that installed this offseason, so we talk with coach Aaron Hafner about that, the team’s option offense and more. King’s coach Jeff Knarr talks about his former boss, Mike Donnelly, who is struggling with leukemia, and Pat and Keith talk about efforts to find the bone marrow match. And East Texas Baptist coach Scott Highsmith talks about the expanded American Southwest Conference, his being the third ETBU coach in three years and more.

The D3football.com Around the Nation Podcast is a regular conversation between Pat Coleman and Keith McMillan and guests covering the wide range of Division III football. It drops monthly in the offseason, and during the season, weekly on Monday morning.

ATN Podcast: Two results throw it wide open

Wesley and Hardin-Simmons could have made it easy on the committee and on all the bracketologists in Division III who are trying to figure out where they’ll go in the playoffs. Instead, Salisbury upset the Wolverines and East Texas Baptist knocked off the Cowboys. What are the ramifications? What do the at-large bids look like now? (A hint, they look awesome.) Plus, which are the teams on the rise in the playoff hunt? What key highlights happened below the radar? Pat and Keith answer those questions, plus hand out their game balls, on this week’s Around the Nation Podcast.
