Happy Thanksgiving!

I just wanted to wish everyone checking in a happy Thanksgiving from D3sports.com.

Keith McMillan and I will both be braving the wilds of I-95 in the infamous Northeast Corridor this weekend as he visits family in New Jersey and I head to the Philadelphia suburbs. Wish us luck.

Hope you and yours are having a happy and safe holiday, especially those of you serving overseas. Keep safe.

  1. Keith & Pat,
I had to brave I-95 myself yesterday during rush hour……..of course, I was in Maine. Not quite the same thing I guess. Stay safe out there, we need you for Saturday. Hope you have a great T-day.

  2. Pat and Keith and the rest of you guru’s who do what you do to keep all of us informed Happy Thanksgiving.

    AND THANK YOU!!!

  3. Ok, OK OK, enough of this good fellowship stuff…lets start talking D-III football. Is the weather going to affect the teams in the Northeast? Those of us out of the snowbelt are experiencing some sun, a little wind and some wet ground. Are all the games in the Wisconsins, Minnesota’s and PA or NY on turf fields? I know Wis-Whitewater plays on grass, advantage Whitewater.

Whose helping me pick the Central game…they have been just sqeaking by the last few games–I look for them to go down by 2 TD’s.

Whats anybody think about Mount Union’s air-porous defense—I heard Ithaca was on the goalline to stick another one in but threw a pick…that means was almost 24+ in one game (vs. the whole season) against the so-called vaulted Mount Union D, thats got to be a bit disconcerting for the Purple Raiders… competition definitely got better than the OAC…whose in their backet that throws enough to exploit it?

This weekend should see some blow outs and some very close games….I guessing at least 1 maybe 2 upsets…what do the rest of you think?

  4. Happy Thanksgiving and a safe one.
Since being told about this web site, it is proven that and old dog can still learn a few things about football. I just like to watch small college football. Now there is more to see than just a game.

  5. Touchdown,

Central is Field Turf, Whitewater and Mount Uion are grass. As for the other fields, I don’t know personally but we do have all the fields surface listed on their respective home pages.

  6. Pat & Keith
D3 FB is a fabulous site, just as the D3 FB world! Thanks for all your work!
If you’re in the “hood” sometime, stop by for some homemade spaghetti or
    BBQ chicken. Happy Thanksgiving!

  7. You know what will be a real shame this weekend….I’m guessing small crowds because of the holiday break. Heard last week in Cleveland they only had 500 or so, that means the teams, coaches and players may out number the fans this weekend at Case…thats a shame…another thought–sometimes holding games at the highest seed may not be the answer for creating a great atmosphere,,,,I hear the NAIA awards games to the highest bidder which pretty much guarrantees a crowd–but then they need the money cause word is the NAIA is broke.

Where do you think the upsets will occur this weeeknd?
Mount wins but closer than you think as TCNJ should test them.
St. John Fischer will push towards next weeks game at Mount.
Wesley and Mary Hardin Baylor roll big time.
Bethel and Wi-Eau Claire is tough…I’ve picked Bethel before but my full stomach from the T-Giving feast says Wi-Eau Claire in an upset?
Central goes down and Whitewater + Wabash move on.

The biggest upset would be Case over Wabash—ain’t gonna happen though.

Whats everyone else thinking? Saturday is just about here!!!

  8. Oh Touchdown! I don’t know if you know this but the other side of the scoreboard read 42, so even if they would have scored they still loose. The vaunted Mount D (not vaulted) intercepted in the end zone because they are a great defense. The defenses job is to keep the other teams offense from scoring as much as their own teams. I would say they accomplished that goal pretty handily. I would hope the competition is better this time of year, we are talking about the best 32 teams in the country not a conference. The Mount defense is not a problem in any game, its the opposing defense that has to figure out how to slow down the high powered offense of Mount.

    Ryan,
I think you are wrong on the turf at Mount Stadium, their’s is field turf not grass.

  9. Touchdown — nothing wrong with higher seeds if the NCAA awards seeds appropriately. Not sure Case’s OWP and OOWP merited the 2 seed considering Wabash’s loss was to an archrival. And Bash beat a playoff team — win against a reg. ranked team.

  10. I like the good fellowship stuff! And blessings to all, particularly during this season of reflection and gratitude.

TD, hope you’re wrong on the attendance matter this weekend. If your figures are correct about last week in Cleveland and the apathy carries over, Wabash numbers could exceed those of C-WR. Regardless, should be a competitive game.

Like all others who have so stated, you guys at d3football.com go above and beyond. And we know your families do as well by supporting your efforts to keep our passion for the best college football alive.

  11. Hope Everyone had a great day (including Pat and Keith, be safe!)! I am thankful for this site for sure!! Looking forward to another good weekend..

  12. As far as weather in Wisconsin goes, we did have some snow yesterday evening (about 1.5-2 inches by my guess). However, it’s supposed to be sunny and warmer for the next few days, so I don’t anticipate that snow having much of an effect on the game at Whitewater on Saturday. (Current forecast for Saturday: high of 38 and partly cloudy.) The field hasn’t been in the greatest shape the last few weeks, but it won’t be a mud pit, that’s for sure.

I’m thankful for many things in life, and one of those things is D3Football.com and everyone who helps put it together. Since I’ve now graduated and moved far away from UW-Whitewater, this is my one place to find reliable information on the Warhawks. Thank you very much for all of the hard work that goes into this site. It is truly appreciated. (Oh yeah, and thanks to the NCAA for D3 Football playoffs! Much better than bowls, in my opinion.)

Good luck to all involved this weekend. Go Warhawks!

  13. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. The UMHB game may be interesting Saturday. Sleet is moving into the area tonight and may be around through Saturday. Abilene has had about 3″ of snow today. If it’s in the cards for a week 3 trip, maybe playing colder up north won’t be that different after all.

  14. Pat & Keith,
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families!
As a graduate of North Carolina Wesleyan College (1973), I would like to let everyone know how proud of our young football program I am. There is a tough game coming up for this team. On paper, Mary Hardin-Baylor should clean the Battling Bishops’ clock. Let’s look at the intagibles:
1- NCWC has no where to go but up
2- Take the run away from MHB, what’s left? They only threw 8 interceptions all season, but if you rarely pass the ball anyway, so what?
3- If NCWC takes the run away from MHB, it may force them to do something they are not used to, turning the ball over.
4- NCWC has the most balanced offense you”ll find- 229.2 per game rushing and 225.7 passing.
5- NCWC- take away one aspect of their offense and you better worry about the other one.

  15. Happy Post Fat Stomach Day Everybody….anybody get up at 5:00 am to get that special ‘on sale gift’?………you’ve got to be kiddin!!!

Mount Union does play on turf, not grass….TDD is right

Pat–If you’re seeding teams, undefeated is still undefeated…if you’re just seeding with OWP and OOWP where would that put a team like Mount Union…don’t think their numbers were ‘top seed’ worthy because OAC bottom six were very weak and their 1 non-conference opponent was dreadful…but please tell me who the heck was lining up to have Mount Union on their side of the bracket which such marginal ‘numbers’….basically no one…..according to what little I know, aren’t schedules made years in advance so attempting to schedule to just get the OWP and OOWP is not impossible but very difficult….isn’t this OWP and OOWP new this year or at least new as far as one of the primary criteria that must be used in pickin & placin

NCWC….nice try NCWGary but you’re definitely looking at headin home after this weekend like by 30 or more cause you’re not going to be able to stop the run sopassin is insignificant–too good, too physical, too much for you!

  16. Touchdown: Why is undefeated still undefeated for Case over Wabash but not for Muhlenberg over Wesley or St. Norbert over Bethel?

And thanks for the third confirmation on Mount Union having turf. Think we covered that. 🙂

  17. Pat—Good point and one to ponder….I’m guessing for St. Norbert- I think the answer is weak league, weak schedule and weak team…for Wesley I’m guessing strong schedule, strong team and probably strong numbers?

Oh yea—didn’t Wabash lose at the worst time of year–ala BCS–meaning the last game? Rival or not you all know you can’t lose late to stay at the top of the rankings……..

  18. To Touchdown,
I like that name. Rather catchy. I was trying to point out possibilities in my comment. As we all know, football is a strange game. It oftentimes hinges on emotions and bizarre bounces of the ball. Thanks for giving me a nice try accolade.

  19. To TDD…vaulted-vaunted, I got that part wrong-sorry…as for Mount Union D….they’re good, no doubt…but are they as good as advertised?–Doesn’t appear so. I hear they are undersized but really fast and get to the ball…don’t know if TCNJ will test them as I don’t know if TCNJ can throw–don’t get me wrong, I look for Mount Union to be playing in Salem in 4 weeks—its just I don’t see them livin up to their unbelievable numbers on D right now….back at ya!
