Game Day: Dome Night, big day

Three games on Friday getting us an early start, including the first two-fifths of the UMAC’s annual Dome Day at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis and the first-ever night game on the campus of my alma mater, Catholic University.

Guess which one I’m at. Yep, the Dome Day. It was about 19 hours closer by car.

Follow along on our CoverItLive blog below or use the traditional comments feature, if you prefer.

Tomorrow I’ll be at Gustavus-St. Thomas, Keith McMillan will be at UW-Whitewater/UW-Oshkosh, Gordon Mann at King’s-Delaware Valley and Jason Bowen at Salisbury-Wesley.

And football will return to the Carleton College campus, where Laird Stadium was underwater a month ago. The Knights played one game at a local high school and another game on the road but will host St. John’s on campus on Saturday.

Your contributions, as always, below!

  1. I’m at UW-Whitewater/UW-Stevens Point. Getting a chance to see the champs plus perhaps our top NFL prospect in SP’s Justin Jenkins.

UWSP played a pretty even half, but had a short TD pass to the TE taken off the board because of a hold, and instead of tying it at 7 or making it 7-3, they misfire on 3rd & 20, and miss the field goal.

late in the half (1:32 change of poss, 1:19 UWW TD) after a punt, Jake Swank mishandled a first-down shotgun snap, UWW recovered inside the 5 and scored on 1 play.

Instead of a tie at the half, it was a 14-0 deficit. Those are the things you can’t do against the toughest opponent on the schedule.

Great atmosphere here, but 3rd is underway so I’ll write more later.

Jenkins was a factor on that near-scoring drive, but Swank has had a handful of passes dropped too. And he just threw a pick to Steve McCullough (9:01 3rd) in UWW territory. 1 play to Rusch and they’re inside 5.

Has been 1 Booker Stanley sighting for UWW. Also, UWW might be bigger up front and faster, but UWSP is biggest team I’ve seen in D3 in years. Both top WRs are 6-4, 215/220 for example.

    Coppage TD, 20-0 PAT pending.

  2. And like that, it’s 21-7. Swank hits Aker (the other 6-4, 220 WR) on a 60 (or 67) yard slant. Middle 3rd qtr. My tweet is probably above.

They just announced the attendance here today: 11,448. I had a feeling it was a huge number; homecoming, UWW HOF inductions, best regular season opponent. I counted 10 cameras working sidelines. 🙂

Also just heard that Montclair St. missed a potential game winning FG and lost at Cortland after leading, 9-0, most of the way.

Alfred also lost to Rochester, Amherst is up 63-42 and Wesley was trailing Salisbury at one point.

  3. Going back down to field level. Will follow tweets, but let’s hear some longer reactions once you guys get back to the computers.

What did you see around the nation today?

  4. I saw some poetic justice in the “worst” LL team knocking off the “best” E8 team.

MSU losing on a last minute TD ensures another year of Mount Union in the “East” bracket.

SUNY Maritime with a big win to remain 8-0 and in the hunt for a Pool B.

Best guess of the “East (aka MUC) Bracket” is:

    1. Mount Union vs. 8. Saint Lawrence/LL champ
    3. NJAC champ vs. 6. NEFC champ

    2. Del Val/MAC cha vs. 7. Pool C from South Region
    4. SUNY Martime/Pool B vs. 5. Pool C NJAC or E8 runner up

  5. Scratch the above…

    1. MUC vs. 8. LL champ
    3. E8 Champ vs. 6. NEFC champ
    2. DVC vs. 7 Pool C (NJAC runner up)
    4. NJAC champ vs. 5. SUNY M
