At long last, game day

Finally — it’s been about 36 weeks off since we last saw Division III football games that counted. Tonight many Division III coaches are undoubtedly burning the midnight oil. I know Jim Purtill is at St. Norbert, as his light was on well past 11 p.m. CT, and Twitter tells us Keith Buckley and staff at Pacific are doing so as well.

Pacific is playing its first game in two decades, so there’s a lot to plan for, and St. Norbert is taking on a tough challenge in the afternoon, hosting No. 5 St. Thomas.

That’s where I am this week, hoping to see a good game as well as the opening of the Green Knights’ new stadium, just a few blocks off campus here in the suburbs of Green Bay, Wis. And Internet permitting, there will be a live video broadcast of this game and I’ll be tweeting and updating the blog.

For those of you who are new to the site, the Game Day blog is a running free-for-all discussion. Tell us what you’re following, where you’re at, etc. We made the blog more friendly to mobile browsers last year so join us from the stands.

  1. thanks for the heads-up on the St.Norbert game I’ll have that going and my I C BOMBERS will be on local TV…..LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL

  2. This in from Kickoff correspondent (I guess that’s a title now) Marcus Fitzsimmons.

Just before today’s 2 p.m. kickoff Maryville College coach Tony Ierulli confirmed that senior quarterback Tim Conner was out for the season. In his stead, true freshman Zach Dowdy will take today’s start after working the last few days with the No. 1 offense in practice.

Conner, who threw for 1,800 yards and 14 touchdowns while completing 51 percent of his throws reportedly was making a routine side arm throw in practice when he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury. An MRI earlier in the week confirmed the severity of the injury.

  3. CNU fake puntset s Wesley up with great field condition. Wolverines drive inside the 10 but QB McSweeny goes down with possible knee injury.

  4. Watching the activity in the background today reminds me that since we moved the blog’s location this spring, people will likely need to re-register.

Registering for the blog is easy, though. Your email address is not shown but is required.

  5. Men’s chorus here at St. Norbert with a great national anthem. Made me think of St. John’s, which is, of course, an all male chorus as well. Wonder if St. Thomas makes the connection. 🙂

  6. Whitewater leads Adrian 12-0 at half…2 missed XP’s by the Warhawks new freshman kicker from Florida…total yards WW 205 Adrian 85…2 lost fumbles for Whitewater contributed to slowing them down.

  7. St. Thomas more or less having its way with St. Norbert. Up 20-0 midway through the second quarter. Ben Wartman had 81 yards rushing in the first quarter. Brady Ervin has returned a pick for a TD. St. Norbert had a FG blocked.

  8. Whitewater 25 Adrian 0 after 3. Matt Blanchard looking good as the new Warhawk QB: 16-21 223 2TD 4-43 rushing 1 TD.

  9. Whitewater 35 Adrian 0 FINAL from the Perk in Whitewater, WI

Matt Blanchard a pretty good debut as Warhawk QB: 19-25 289 2TD passing; rushing 5-46 1 TD.

  10. Brady Ervin greets the St. Norbert offense with his second interception of the day. Second half underway here.

  11. Wesley 34-6 over CNU Sottilare had a nice game in for injured McSweeney… Had some dropped passes ,spread the ball nicely.

  12. with 12 players on the sidelines [TEAM RULES] I C BOMBERS pulled by SLU 33-3 I C needs a lot of work O and D started way to slow and sloppy

  13. Looks like the Feaster/Robbins connection is causing problems for Whitworth as Hardin-Simmons leads 14-0 at the half.

  14. How ’bout the Bluffton Beavers 30-28 victory @ Kalamazoo 2day? Congrats to Coach Veidt, the players & staff 4 a job well done! And 4 all the naysayers who dissed them in the season previews, IN YOUR FACE!!!
