Central/Bethel and UW-W/Wabash banter

Alright, so, the previous blog post has devolved into a St. John Fisher/Mount Union back and forth and there is some good discussion there about Mary Hardin-Baylor and Wesley.

But there are two other games that are taking place on Saturday as well, and we’re sure people want to talk about them without having to wade through all the other so-called discussion.

Three West teams remain alive out of the original seven selected, with Wabash crashing the party in the North Region to represent the North in its own bracket. I’ll move some of the related comments over here but want to get people started, especially on the teams getting out from under St. John’s shadow.

  1. BCBUDAD don’t worry Central is taking Bethel seriously, these guys have taken every single game seriously and they have had to all year. We fans just choose to believe that this team will win, why shouldn’t we? The Dutch have proven they could win no matter how things looked, all year. I don’t see a high score in the predicted weather and if there is a lot of scoring, I think the Central defense and special teams will be getting their share of it.

Glad to hear that a lot of your fans are coming down in buses, it would be the safer option under the circumstances.

  2. A post from “sanders” mistakenly put on the discussion about centers…

Three points I would like to make. One; comparing Pynenburg and “The Big Red Barn” (Raebel), is like comparing apples to apples (and some very fine apples at that). Two; the real story behind the game will be the “other” Warhawks; linebackers Borzick, and Rindahl, an experienced and talented senior secondary, the D-line led by Ogrizovich, coach Borland’s incredible work ethic, game preparation and his ability to keep his defense focused all four quarters. Three; are they better than past Warhawk defenses? I can’t answer that, but what I can tell you is that these kids are hungry, hungry and greedy. They don’t just want to stop opposing offenses, they want the ball, and they want to take it to the kitchen every down and every play, and with all due respect, there is little Wabash is going to be able to do about it.

  3. atmgr82,

It sounds as if we disagree even when we agree! My not-so-subtle point was that you and I can debate the Raebel/Pynie comparisons all we want, but what really matters is who wins the game. The winner of the game THIS Saturday determines who plays next Saturday. Our points are exactly the same. Much has been made of the Wabash spread offense and passing game. They better hope they bring more to the table than that. Whitewater is currently under a winter storm warning with high winds, freezing rain, and 2-4 inches of snow Saturday afternoon and evening. If you come to the game dress warm buddy!

You got me pegged pretty decent actually… you should be a psychic or a poker player or something. The truth is that one of my best friends is from Wisc. and went to UWW. He reads these blogs, so I posted it to see if he would tell me about this “jacka$$” on the Daily Dose. It worked, and I made some new friends from Wisc. in the process.
But on a second note, does anyone remember when the Hoosiers went up to Madison a few years back? By the end of the day they were calling the stadium Camp Randall El…. Well, my life will be complete if by the end of Saturday people are leaving TOM PERKINS STADIUM!!! For those of you who know the Perk, he is the Equipment Manager for Wabash… I would love for a controversial finish of Perkins going onto the field to clean a spot for the kicker and allow the Little Giants a final four berth.

  5. I just returned from the Bethel beatdown of Central. For those of you who commented above about the Dutch… do you watch D3 football outside of the IIAC? This game was not as close as the 27-13 score indicated, as Bethel dominated the line of scrimmage all day long, from the moment you won the toss and decided to kick to the end, when they picked you off and returned it 90 yards for the touch, to seal the game. You beat SJU big, but you got some breaks, and in turn, you got some big heads. In a game that was delayed an hour and a half, so trucks could literally plow off the field, and in weather that was snow-turned-to-sleet-turned-to-raining DOWNPOUR… you didn’t show up. Bethel had as many fans as you, and they had to travel through a snowstorm to get there. Central has a great program and a good tradition- hopefully next year, you’ll find the missing piece- heart.

Good luck to the Royals against the top teams in the nation. To all of you that haven’t heard of them until now… Bethel Royal football is for real. There is a new power in DIII, and they reside in the Twin Cities. Tell your friends about it.

  6. Bigwheels77,
    You are hilarious!

    atmgr82,
Looks like your stat analysis paid off. ‘Pynie’ had 10 tackles. Unfortunatley his defense gave up 301 yards rushing.

    Danimal814 says:
“I kinda find the 42-7 prediction funny b/c Wabash has scored over 20 points every game Hudson has been the starter. Also, Wabash is 2nd highest ranked team in the bracket so they should probably have the best and closest game, right?”

    Still laughing Danimal?

  7. RoaylsJustBeatyou: Wow, must have been some sparkling grape juice on that ride home tonight. Yes, we got handled. but in a day when the elements so obviously favored your “3 yards and a cloud of slush” offense I don’t think it was the statement game you think it was. Yes, the Dutch only averaged 3.6 per carry, the Royals got all of 3.8. You won turnovers/takeaways 5 to 3, and had 1 TD drive longer that 34 yards. this broke a 4 game losing streak to the Dutch and you’re still 19 playoff wins behind us. Lets not talk DIII power just yet. I’m guessing the Johnnie fans will agree with me on this one for a change.

Congratulations to the winners, including the Royals. Best of luck next week and we’ll see you all next year.

  8. Bethel plays as hard as any team I’ve ever seen. They’ll be a snootful for Mt. Union next week, as the late Hank Stram would say
