Game day from everywhere

Welcome to Week 11!

Starting my day off by watching … yes, watching … the Curry/Coast Guard game on the Penn Atlantic video stream. Just saw Curry fake a punt and run for a first down, then bust open a long run which set up the game-tying touchdown. It’s 7-7 late in the first quarter.

You need a strong Net connection to get this video. There’s audio backup on our Scoreboard.

Last night I saw Rowan defeat William Paterson rather handily, and we might be ready to declare the return of the Profs’ offense. The young receivers are beginning to look halfway decent, though I can see why there hasn’t been a lot of confidence in them to date. Their hands weren’t perfect and sometimes their routes weren’t overly sharp.

Cortaca is tied at 7-7 with just under a minute to go in the first quarter. Game day doesn’t get much better than this.

  1. IC takes the lead on a Kittenplon field goad… 10-7 IC. Pretty even game to this point…. I give my biased edge to IC however. Defense is playing well.

  2. IC was moving the ball rather effectively on the ground, but 3 costly penalties force the Bombers into a 4 and 26 and a punt. IC defense seems impressive… holding CState to 13 yards rushing… Approximately 6 minutes in the half.

  3. Starting QB Brian Shea (actually 3rd stringer) is hurt. The 4th QB for the season has come in the game. … Freshman Sean Pratt now playing.

  4. Halftime at the Cortaca Jug….10-10 tie. CState QB Brian Shea has been knocked out of the game an apparent foot/ankle injury. Pratt has come in and has gone 3 of 3 for 31 yards and looks pretty good. Cortland kicks a 38 yard field goal with 0:10 left in the half.

  5. AU ‘scored’ on a long TD pass to apparently tie the game at 7, however, officials brought it back as rec stepped out of bounds…later kicked a fg.

    SJF 7 AU 3

  6. Williams 27, Amherst 0 HALF — Biggest little game with a not-little margin.

Watching the Union/RPI webcast from Albany’s Channel 3. Union leads 9-7 after first quarter.

  7. RPI’s Jon Branche just caught his 194th career reception, school record, surpassing the mark set by Flynn Cochran.

  8. IC takes the lead 17-7 on an 89 yard kick off return to start the second half by Kelly Gordon. He sets the IC school record with his 5th kick off return for a TD.

  9. RPI’s Nick Foglia just delivered on Anthony Marotti that was worthy of Jacked Up. Forced turnover on downs as he was scrambling on fourth-and-4.

  10. Following an IC turnover, C State kicks a field goal to cut the IC lead to 17-13. The turnover was an interception on a horrible pass by Dan Juvan.

  11. Aside from the kickoff return, Cortland is taking charge of the second half. Just underway in the 4th quarter, Cortland started at the IC 37 and is forced to punt after a 3 and out. Touchback… IC ball on the 20. Offense is non existent for the Bombers in this half.

  12. Curry ran out the clock to win 34-28.

I have to step away from the computer for a while. Need some cold medication. 🙂

  13. CMU uses a stout defense to beat Thiel 14-7 as Travis Sivek breaks the school’s all-time rushing record…and he’s only a junior.

  14. Congrats to RPI for their victory today over Union. As a Union fan it kills me to say this but RPI deserves the victory. They really came to play today, their offensive line held Union with little or no pressure all game long. A very frustrating day for the Dutchmen to say the least. After this I don’t feel Union deserves a home game in the playoffs. This is one of the hardest defeats at the hands of RPI that I can remember. All I can say is….LET’S GO MERRIMACK!

  15. Millsaps is laying the wood to Trinity here. This is going to end Trinity’s nine-year streak of playoffs, most likely.

  16. Another amazing game from Cortaca. Two consecutive seasons in OT. I think it is something like 8 of the last 9 games coming down to the final 2 minutes.

Kicker Matthew Mintz was nails today, with clutch kicks to end the first half and win the game in OT. Cortland lost another quarterback today, which is both sad and incredible. The Red Dragons won with 4th stringer Sean Pratt from Brockport. Pratt looked like a veteran, moving in and out of the pocket and completing 11 of 17 passes on a huge stage.

That should get Cortland a Pool C bid in my opinion. With RPI upsetting Union, Cortland could get a top 4 seed and a home game next week. But let’s just cross our fingers on the Pool C bid first…

The Cortland and Ithaca fans were each amazing today. The crowds never let down on the intensity. I got a kick out of the entire Cortland crowd singing Sweet Caroline. The IC crowd as usual brought their chants and great team spirit. Fun as always!

  17. SJFF82-Thanks , I guess it is nice to know that Union is playing next week. That would be a great game against a solid SJF team. I haven’t seen them play at all this year but I would love to see that game. I hear SLF has a lot of talent on both sides of the ball. Union after today is a question mark. They did do a lot of good things but I just ask myself, “If they couldn’t beat RPI today, where does that leave them in terms of the playoffs?” I don’t know, I’ll write more when I cool off. Good luck SJFF82

  18. Congrats to my boys from Cortland. I haven’t been there since my graduation in 1993. Great to see them in top form. Also glad we beat the spoiled rich kids from IC. Always loved going to the games. Off to the playoffs.

Anybody know if any of our top 3 QB’s are coming back for the playoffs ?

Hey Cortlandfootball, Are you Dan P. from back in the early 90’s ERA ? You the same guy that did radio broadcasts for C-State years ago ?

  19. In a game with zero playoff implications, Trinity (Conn.) beats Wesleyan 41-0.

After giving up 41 to Williams in their third game, the Bantams give up three total in the next six games.

  20. Cortland football–

I ran CSTV sports dept 1990-1993….I was the one who first broadcasted Red Dragon football on cable throghuout Cortland….worked under Doc Hollenback’s tutalage…I had you do the play by play for me once or twice I believe….I produced and directed the games….even did the 1st remote to IC in 92 or 93, I forget which year…..

  21. So now that Millsaps romped the #2 seed in the South (Trinity, Tx.) 34-12, maybe people will realize that this team isn’t a joke. It wasn’t ever even a game. Millsaps dominated the entire game!!

  22. Wilkes with an impressive 28-7 victory over rival King’s College and pretty much assuring the #1 seed in the East this afternoon. What are your comments, predictions for the undeafted MAC champion Wilkes Colonels ?

  23. No, but no one thought we could do it. All we’ve gotten is doubted all season. We discussed regional rankings. How’s that win for the rankings?! It wasn’t even just a win… we ran over them.

  24. They mean nothing. You’re right, we are in. You ike arguing don’t you? My point is, everyone has doubted us… and now we’re in.

  25. Dunno, you’re sitting here discussing irrelevant points, like people thinking the team was a joke and what regional rankings will be when tomorrow is Selection Sunday.

Now you’re saying everyone has doubted you, and shoot, that’s not true either. I thought you would win today. Trinity hasn’t done anything of note since Roy Hampton was arrested on the River Walk — zero playoff wins since that date and now they likely won’t even make the playoffs.

You’re trying to play the “woe is me” card and it just doesn’t wash. Shoot, one of our columnists has been on your bandwagon for three weeks now. You’re going to need to come up with a different shtick.

  26. Just finished watching Franklin demolish a very good Hanover team in some brutal weather conditions. A blowing wind, cold temperatures and some light rain couldn’t hold back this very potent Franklin offense. Chad Rupp had another outstanding day at QB and Danny Sears was…..well Danny Sears catching touchdown passes and returning kickoofs and punts in the manner in which the NCAA stat folks are becoming accustomed. Most impressive was the Franklin defense which held the Panthers out of the end zone until very late in the 4th quarter when the second and third team units allowed a meaningless score. This is a team that has achieved an enormous amount this season, plays an excellent explosive offensive style coupled with a very stingy defense…..they and their fans deserve a playoff spot…..this is a team that is very dangerous and could make some serious noise in the DIII playoffs!!!
