We could have nine automatic bids handed out this week and there are two head-to-head winner-take-all games, between Otterbein and Mount Union in the Ohio Athletic Conference and between Trine and Adrian in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
There aren’t any live stats for the Otterbein/Mount Union game, but we’ll have updates here on the blog filling in some of the blanks. There’s live audio for that game and others on the Scoreboard.
I’ll be in Eau Claire, Wis., to see if UW-Stevens Point can keep up its run of nail-biters. In fact, I should be getting on the road pretty soon.
There are a couple of key Pool C (at-large bid) games — one of them between Rowan and Montclair State in the NJAC. I just stumbled on a Rowan football blog with some extra information worth checking out. Huntingdon and Hampden-Sydney play in Alabama in a game that affects both at-large pools. And we talked more about these games in the Triple Take yesterday, of course.
Plenty of other games, as always, and thanks to those who drop by with regular updates each week!

Welcome to Westerville … cloudy, crisp, November day just North of Columbus, Ohio … parking lots near stadium were bustling very early this morning. Nearby Ohio State is out of town so this Mount Union-Otterbein game is the big game in town … grass field is showing signs of the season … An interesting note, this is Mount Union’s only regular season game on real grass. We will be here all day giving updates.

40-0 And all this on a muddy field
Coy gets another 1 yard TD plunge to cap a 29-yard drive … Otterbein 44 yd. kickoff return and a penalty at the end of the play gave the Cardinals a short field. missed extra point … makes 21-13.
At Eau Claire, UW-Stevens Point took the opening kickoff and drove to the Eau Claire 21-yard line but missed a 38-yard field goal just wide to the right.
Wabash 35 – Hiram 0 at the half;
Little Giants should be undefeated going into the Bell game next weekend.
At the half, UWW 14 Stout 0.
On fourth down from the Otterbein 16 Micheli throws to Shorts who juggles it and runs into endzone for second TD of the day makes it 28-13 Mount Union
AU up by 2 at the half(21-19). Ithaca also lost their starting QB in the 2nd quarter; no word if he’s gonna be back.
1 yd TD by Nate Kmic makes him the NCAA all-time touchdown leader with 110 TD’s … 35-13 Mount Union 4:30 2nd
End of the first quarter, still no score at Eau Claire. UW-EC putting together a drive as the first half closes. Cold, cloudy day with just a few snow flurries, not enough to affect play at the moment.
Not scoreless for long, though, as on the first play of the second half Kyle Paulson rolls out to the right and throws all the way back across the field to find Cory Sartorelli wide open. He takes it 29 yards to the end zone and gives the Blugolds a 7-0 lead.
This update from the Trine-Adrian game:
Adrian, Mich. – At halftime, Trine clings to a 2-0 lead over Adrian in the would-be MIAA football championship. The only score came at the 6:50 mark of the second quarter as Trine linebacker Tab McNally corralled Troy Niblock for the safety.
Trine has failed to convert on three red-zone opportunities. Trine’s best opportunity came midway through the second quarter as Adrian withstood six chances inside the five – including four straight from the one-yard line. Trine had a chance to expand the lead to 5-0 as the first half ended, but the 34 yard attempt from Jeremy Howard missed wide left.
Adrian has yet to enter the red zone. The Bulldogs have not advanced past the Trine 45.
Eau Claire scores first lead 7-0, 2nd quarter.
Jeff Schebler kicks 47 yard FG to open the scoring in the second half. WW 17 Stout 0.
With that kick, Schebler ties the D3 career FG mark with 52 careet FG’s. Schebler is only a junior. Mount Union’s Ken Edleman held the record.
Stevens Point linebacker Brandon Stremkowski is getting wheeled off on a stretcher here. They appear to have immobilized his lower right leg.
At the end of a series which included a second-down sack of Kyle Paulson, Eau Claire’s Craig Kolb misses a 43-yard field goal wide left. Still 7-0 EC with 9:40 left in the first half.
27 yard FG gets Stout on the board…WW 17 Stout 3. Stout had a 1st and goal from the Warhawk 1 before being pushed back to the 9.
3rd quarter…6:03
Halftime in Westerville, 35-13 Mount Union … Kmic has 11 carries for 98 yards and two scores … Cecil Shorts has six catches for 133 yards and Micheli is 11-for-13 for 198 yards … For Otterbein Colton Coy has 55 yards with two touchdowns and Jack Rafferty is 3-for-8 passing for 46 yards. Mount Union ball to start the second half
Teams trade turnovers. Stevens Point has the ball in Blugold territory with 2:23 to go before half and two timeouts remaining.
Illegal block penalty pushes the Pointers back into their own territory. Catch by TE Brad Kalsow makes it third-and-11. Exchange fumbled on a reverse and SP punts it away. EC runs out the clock to lead 7-0 at the half.
Wow, Case Western Reserve (12:05 kickoff) already has a final.
A couple video options if you’re at home and not into a particular game: Millsaps, Trinity, Cortland State, Hobart/RPI.
I wish these video companies would get straight what kind of player is required. I think I have them all and I still run into roadblocks.
Typical Mount Union. (doesn’t even appreciate it anymore)
D3Keith Says:
Typical Mount Union. (doesn’t even appreciate it anymore)
What is typical Mount Union? And who doesn’t appreciate it any more?
Mount appreciates all they get…nothing has ever been handed to them. So am curious as to what you are talking about.
Stout scores, 2 yard pass on 4th down…WW 17 Stout 10…4th quarter, 7:42…Stout isn’t doing anything flashy, just hanging around (sort of like Stevens Point 2 weeks ago)
Whitewater returns the kickoff near mid-field.
Yeah Keith, why the attitude? I don’t see anything on here that would prompt that kind of post.
Wabash 63 – Hiram 0;
Little Giants 9-0 going into the bell game…just like last year. Hopefully the result of the bell game changes a bit.
Penalties: Whitewater 11-134 yards, Stout 11-106…brutal! Stout driving inside WW territory at the 40, 5:38 4th quarter.
Kmic one more TD in the third quarter and the Mount Union defense holds Otterbein to minus-1 yard in third quarter … 42-13 end of three
Eau Claire scores on its first possession of the second half, with a couple of nice runs by Cory Sartorelli capped off by a 43-yard scamper for six. 14-0 EC over SP.
Cecil Shorts ties Mount Union single-season record receiving TD’s with his third of the day has 19 on the season … 49-13 Mount Union start of the fourth.
:11 seconds left at Whitewater…Stout at WW 37
:05.3 seconds left…Stout first down at WW19…1 play left?
Whitewater survives a great effort by the Stout Blue Devils in an ugly, penalty filled game, winning 17-10 at Whitewater.
Eau Claire scores and moves 2 td’s in front of Stevens Point.
RPI gets bounced to Pool C as Hobart kicks a 37-yard field goal as time expires to win 20-17/
Before the Mount Union guys go nuts:
Typical Mount Union, blowing away a ranked team.
Doesn’t appreciate it anymore = Keith.
Hobart kicks 37 yd FG as time runs out. Final Score Hobart 20 – RPI 17
OK Pat, but why was Keith typing in the 1st person in the previous line?
“I wish these video companies would get straight what kind of player is required. I think I have them all and I still run into roadblocks.
Typical Mount Union. (doesn’t even appreciate it anymore)”
Wouldn’t he have said (I don’t even appreciate it anymore)?
Otterbein scores on a halfback option as Coy throws a TD pass … 49-20 Mount Union five minutes to go
Just take a deep breath and relax. No need to take it personally. Think about who typed it — Keith, not some loudmouth fan.
Stevens Point gets the ball off an Eau Claire punt inside Blugold territory. Big catch by TE Brad Kalsow over the middle and a fade route by Jared Jenkins for the touchdown. SP gets back in it, down 14-7 with 4:10 left.
In the third quarter, I should’ve mentioned.
Thanks for translating Pat, I didn’t realize that was going to be a big thing.
I try to make myself appreciate it, I really do. 🙂
