ATN Podcast: Cutting the field down

First of all, props to the four teams eliminated this weekend on fine seasons. Though none of the scores looked close by the end … and one of them was a blowout 10 minutes in … the road to Division III football’s Final Four was never easy.

Keith McMillan and Pat Coleman review the four games and take a first look at the two upcoming in this week’s Around the Nation Podcast.

  1. long time reader, first time login. just dropping a line to say how much i enjoy d3 football . i’ve become a dIII and dII convert. very little dI anymore.
i’ve been to three stagg bowls and want to say that salem va. does a great job
and i always feel welcome. all for now

  2. bartman,

Dude…………… lighten up. This is a great site with dedicated people who maintain it for little to nothing. I have been to the other sites like D2 football, and D3 is light years ahead of them. I have had many disagreements with Pat and Keith but I don’t hold any hard feelings. Perhaps you need to get OVER YOURSELF and stop creating all the drama. Another thing, stop being a HATER!!!!!!!!!!

  3. I love this site (even if it keeps me up way past my bedtime). I disagree with those that feel this site is somehow in the tank for MUC. I

Mr. Bartman (I’m still mad about what you did to our Cubs), regarding your position that 180 kids is a bad thing, I wonder how many kids Hobart would have in their program if they won a couple national championships. Success attracts success. Kids want to not only be a part of a championship program, but many thrive on the challenge of competing to be the reason for the success. If you are able to provide quotes from some of those 180 MUC players that feel they were somehow misled or taken advantage of or whatever way you feel they were wronged, I might begin to see your point.

Back to UWW and UMHB. The story on Saenz has now got me even more worried about UMHB- they are having much more success with the pass than I had thought. This match-up is looking more and more like the lopsided stats before last year’s Stagg Bowl.

  4. cru crushed,

Dude, I’m not a hater and I’m totally over myself.

Sorry for expressing an opinion that you don’t like. Pat and Keith are big boy’s, they don’t need your protection. Maybe you should get over me. What you call “drama”, I call healthy controversy. I’ll quote Keith: “this is not a yearbook club”, you have to be able to accept opposing views.

  5. Bartman,
WELCOME BACK! YOU HAD ME WORRIED. NOT REALLY. YOU DID, HOWEVER MAKE THE RIGHT ANALYSIS ABOUT MOUNT. ROOTBOY42 WELCOME ABOARD. I WOULDN’T MAKE THE TRIP EITHER IF I WERE YOU. TOO LONG, TOO COLD. LISTEN ON THE INTERNET. THE LAST THREE WEEKS I NOTICED THAT THE TAILGATERS FROM MTS. OPPONENTS WERE EERILY QUIET. NO SIGNS THAT THEY REALLY THOUGHT THEIR TEAMS WOULD OR COULD WIN. LAST WEEK I PASSED A GROUP OF CORLTAND FANS AND AS I ALWAYS DO I OFFERED THEM GOOD LUCK. THEIR RESPONSE WAS, “YEAH, RIGHT” THEN THEY LAUGHED. THEIR PLAYERS SHOWED THEY CAME TO NOT ONLY PLAY, BUT TO WIN. I HOPE WHEATON (PLAYERS) COME WITH THAT “LAY IT ALL ON THE LINE ATTITUDE” AND MAKE IT A COMPETATIVE GAME. ALL YOU WHEATON SUPPORTERS, JUMP ON BOARD AND FOR 60 MINUTES……BELIEVE!!! GOOD LUCK.

  6. bartman,

You will never get it, so keep on with you’re stupid rants and keep all of us laughing because you are a JOKE. I’m finished with this so say what you want I’m done responding to you.

  7. Bartman,
:roll eyes: … I knew it was you when I saw the comments shoot from 24 to 56 in a day. 🙂

I, personally, have never censored anyone.

I have, however, been known to ignore repeated, incoherent cries for attention masked as ‘stirring it up.’

If you would like me to read or respond to your posts in the future, maybe we can start fresh next season. I would be thrilled continue treating you and every other reader with the same amount of respect you publically display on our site.

As explained, the software flags posts for various reasons. There is no full-time staff at D3football.com. Pat and I can’t possibly sit around all day waiting to censor the first computer-screen tough guy that pops off when we have Mount Union love letters to write and letter jackets to have dry cleaned.

Everyone has recently come to understand that you’re just a nice guy with honest concerns about journalsitic integrity and the academic well-being of young teenagers from Ohio, but you can never repeat yourself too many times!

And since you’ve done our readership the great service of exposing Pat and I as incapable of offering any insight unclouded by our insatiable love for all things Purple, feel free to keep our names out of your mouth as you enjoy our lovely website.

  8. I rarely post anything on this sight but I do have to agree with HScoach in that this site recognizes a lot of different schools across the country during the reglular season and that there is usually no reference to MUC until the playoffs.

Yes, if anyone ever upset them earlier than the semis, we would get burned pretty badly for not being there. I think we’ll ride the 17-and-counting string until we get burned though.

    ———————————————————

Short story long, Mount Union can’t move up to D2 because of the scholarship structure, the fact that there’s little-to-no D2 in Ohio, and because they’re a member of the OAC in all other sports, none of which are qualified to move up.

We used to have a thread devoted to this question, and I planned to refer youto it, but I fear it has been pruned since I can’t find it. Basically it was a rather informative examination of a question that gets asked over and over again.

    ———————————————————

You said that SJF and Hobart would get more press if they did things 1/9th as well. Was that just from the hip or is there something that you actually have in mind. 1/9th of what? For example, Hobart has won the LL 3 of the last 4 years. They are 34-9 in the last four years. Is this 1/9th of anything. We have to be 1/9th of what exactly.

    I used 1/9th very deliberately.

Poke around the site some, you know, beyond the Hobart gamers. You should be able to figure out what a team has to do to achieve 1/9th of what Mount Union has.
