The first of the D3football.com crew has arrived in Salem — took a look at the field, which is a nice upgrade. They’ve also done some nice work with signage in and around the stadium. The banners with the name of each national champion that used to line the front of the grandstand have moved to the outside concourse and there is a new look inside.
The teams will be practicing here at the stadium in a short while, with Mount Union first, followed by UW-Whitewater. Currently, a local TV station is here doing a news piece on the game.
The weather is mild so far, though we know that is forecast to change. Hoping tomorrow’s weather holds over for an extra day.
We’ll have more from here later. Practices, then Gagliardi presentation tonight. Hope you can get down here.
Give us the call letters of the local news station.
Will check. 1240 is the all sports station.
Morring is practicing for Mount Union.
WDBJ 7 CBS
WSLS 10 NBC
WSET 13 ABC
WFXR/WWCW 21/27 FOX
Nothing on those stations, “film at eleven” I guess.
Did you guys know that Whitewater’s offensive coordinator is a Mount Grad.
Maybe someday we’ll see this all over the country.
Pat,
Try to get a few words (that’s probably all you’ll get) for coach Wojtowicz. Great man. Probably one of the most intense guys you’ll run into. Coaches DB’s, special teams. He also coaches mens and womans tennis at Mount and those programs are getting pretty serious. Have fun.
I’m sorry, I understand the question now. It was the NBC affiliate, which I think is WSLS.
Sitting at the Gagliardi Trophy presentation. Three of the region finalists are here: Justin Beaver, of course, and Derek Blanchard. But Drew Smith of Hampden-Sydney is here and was recognized as well.
Beaver just gave an excellent acceptance speech. For those who don’t know his story, check the front page.
So, what was the correct answer to the poll on the front page? 🙂
You know, he didn’t say, “I’d like to thank …” a long list of people in the traditional acceptance speech way. So … nobody got it right. And he thanked basically all of them eventually.
It was a silly question to begin with.
But at least you kept the focus on the fact that the trophy was being presented tonight.
Great will be the day when all four finalists can afford to be there and attend the game, if they so choose.
Silly is what we were going for, so thank goodness. 🙂
Pat….Keith….
Will you two be making the rounds to the “pep rally/tailgates” tomorrow night? Might we see you at Mount’s get together? If not, I will make sure to disrupt whatever you are doing on gameday to get ready for the broadcast. 🙂
How did the teams looked during their workouts thurs. Do the players seem loose?
R24aider-
From what I could tell- UWW looked much bigger and quicker. Some of the Mt players looked like they stayed out a little too late.
yellow_jacket98,
Those weren’t the current MT players, LK thought it would be a nice gesture to let His team for the 70’s play the first quarter to give UWW a fighting chance.
Here is the video shown at the Gagliardi Trophy presentation last night.

This was an incredible production — worth watching!
WOW!!!! Great video and great story. Sounds like this young man had a built in excuse to head down the wrong road but chose not to. Wouldn’t it be a great storybook ending to a great career if the Warhawks can pull the upset tomorrow?

All bets are off if there is an ice storm. Remember not to park your car under a southern yellow pine tree. They look nice but ice will take the whole branch down a heck of a lot quicker then the hardwood trees that we are used to.
Great Video on Justin Beaver. What a great young man and perfect example of a D3 Football player. He is definately deserving of the award.
