Saturday Live

The leaves are turning color from green to orange and red, the breeze is a bit cooler, grass football fields are transforming from crisp green to slightly muddy brown, Pat and Keith are on the road and that means only one thing; it’s another Division III football Saturday in October.

With most of the D3football.com staff on the road this weekend, I’ll start off our weekly Saturday blog live from the D3football.com studios. Post your thoughts on this week’s games right here, from wherever you might be watching or listening to the action. All the live audio and live stats links can be found on the scoreboard link on the left hand side of the page.

And, don’t forget D3football.com and D3cast are under the lights tonight in Milton, Mass. for the East Region “Game of the Week.” It’s undefeated Curry hosting Endicott at 7:00 PM. The Colonels look to improve to 7-0 on the season while the Gulls are hoping to knock off their rivals from the NEFC Boyd Division. Todd Bloniarz and Derek Falvy will call the game.

Pat Coleman and Keith McMillan will be joining us this afternoon from the Chicagoland area with updates from Elmhurst-North Central and later Wheaton-Augustana. For more on Keith’s latest trip to Abilene, Texas; read this week’s Around the Nation column.

The floor is now open, albeit a little early. Enjoy today’s games.

  1. Another great night for football. Keith … I think, he isn’t saying … and I are enjoying our fifth stadium and third game (or part thereof) of the game.

  2. Augustana just kicked a field goal to cut the Wheaton lead to 21-10. However, in typical Augie fashion, the drive took more than seven minutes off the clock.

  3. We haven’t had a chance tonight to see a lot of what Pete Ittersagen is best at, but he’s made a couple of great special teams plays. Just now he downed a punt on the 1-yard line, pinning Augustana deep. Not much of a pass coverage role for a cornerback against Augustana, however.

  4. Just now Augustana punting from its own end zone, with Ittersagen standing at his own 45 to receive, and the Vikings uncorked a 17-yard punt that maye have been partially blocked.

  5. Hey ESPN.COM for probably the first time in it’s history does a story on a D3 game in progress. Yes, you guessed it, it’s about Mike Flynt, the 59-YO guy who finally saw some limited action tonight.

  6. from the field great ending … Augie might wish it had that first down and goal play back. See what we can find out.

  7. SRSU fumbles on the 4
    TLU’s 2006 Pre-season All-American PK misses as 39-yd FG
    Tied after 2 OT’s; 42-42.

Lobos go on defense for the 3rd OT!

  8. Error 41-yd FG by Michael Van Wagner in 3rd OT.

Van Wagner defeated HPU, 34-31 in 2OT’s earlier in the season.

  9. Pat kept you updated with the Treo … but phenomenal finish here at Wheaton. Augie broke out the pass on the final drive and sharply marched down the field, converted a 4th-and-9 to set up first-and-goal from the 7, where they spiked with less than 40 seconds left.

Two incomplete passes before Jesse Laizure came off the corner for a blindside sack on fourth down to finish the defensive stand, and Wheaton held on for its second 28-24 win in CCIW play in two weeks.

Six stadiums, three games … We’ll go home, er, to the hotel, digest the day’s results, vote in the polls, fly back and wrap everything up by recording a podcast for you to access on Monday. Not necessarily in that order. Sheesh.

Thanks for playing along with us and sharing what you saw and heard across the nation. Until next week on Saturday Live …

  10. Keith, who is King Narcolepsy, has been sleeping for a couple hours (Eric Gagne was still warming up) but I’m still up. Yikes.

Both photo galleries are up from the games we shot, however. 🙂

  11. D3Keith…..check out H-SC vs W&L FINAL score !!
Unbelievable game !! Both QB’s broke both school and ODAC records.
R-MC and H-SC should be battling for ODAC crown in a few weeks.
