Gameday: Week 6

Not all Saturdays are created equal and this one clearly has more interesting games than most.

No.1 Mount Union and No. 4 Capital meet each other in a familiar situation with Mount Union as the favorite and Capital hoping to upset the Purple Powerhouse. These teams have had a handful of meetings with these same national rankings and none of the outcomes favor the Crusaders.

No. 17 Salisbury takes the field without several members of its starting defense against St. John Fisher who is without any margin for error if it has any chance at an at-large bid.

Elsewhere the only undefeated teams in the NJAC (Cortland-Montclair), SCIAC (Occidental-Redlands) and MIAC (Augsburg and Carleton) meet. No. 15 Case Western faces its toughest test in Wooster. Ditto for Wheaton (Ill.) against Augustana and Wabash against Wash U. Lycoming ‘s resurgent offense meets Albright, which struggled to score against FDU-Florham last week while Del Val hosts Leb Val.

Plenty to talk about, plenty to follow. Have at it and enjoy a great day of football.

  1. I’ve now been officially blamed for Cortland State having a game that looks like its bound for OT. Apparently they remember the last time I was at a Red Dragons game, a 14-7 OT loss to Rowan that eventually kept that 9-1 team out of the playoffs.

Big completion across midfield for Cortland though, and they’re driving inside 2 minutes.

  2. Another big completion for Cortland, 30 yards to the 8 … looked like they caught the beast MLB Hunt in zone coverage against their top WR Hejnos. (top guy today anyway)

  3. Cortland scores on a 8-yard Giuliano on the first play after the timeout … speculation in the box is that they let him score rather than letting Cortland kill clock and kick the GW FG.

Then Montclair blocks the PAT. 23-17 with 1:38 left.

  4. Matt Cook grinds out 234 yards and four touchdowns including two in the fourth quarter. Del Val rallies for the final 13 points to win.

    Del Val 26 – Final
    Leb Val 14

  5. 3rd-and-8 near midfield for Montclair, loss of 11 on the sack brings up a desperation 4th-and-19 for the Red Hawks.

  6. Wow. Boysen running forward, knows he’s close to LOS so chucks it … ends up being a gain of 24.

29 seconds left. Actually resetting it to 30.

MSU spikes on 1st down on the 38. They still have a chance here.

  7. This kid is the MSU QB going forward. Scrambles to buy time for a gain of 12.

Even if they don’t pull this out … it’s going to come down to 1 play … Montclair has a clutch guy.

Next pass inc. … 0:16 left on the 26. Need a TD here, but PAT wins it.

  8. Cortland keeps bringing pressure to make Boysen get rid of it.

0 timeouts for MSU, no middle of the field here with 12 seconds left. Well they went over the middle and it was incomplete anyway.

One shot for all the marbles. 🙂

If I don’t post again, Montclair didn’t get it.

  9. UWW’s Jake Anderson, back from injury, takes his first carry of the year 50 yards and a TD with :50 left in 4th.

    FINAL – UWW 52 UW-River Falls 24

  10. Ithaca played real bad got banged up again 3 TO’s some how they won..41 to 6…gotta get healthy..stop the ???? I’m not sure..maybe they just have to start starting something…like basics..love ya bombers but lets get it together and keep it there..see ya on TV next Sat.

  11. Occidental just went up two scores on Redlands in the fourth quarter. Sounds like Redlands is struggling a little on offense with Dan Selway injured.
