Game Day: Welcome from sunny SoCal

At least I assume it will be sunny, since it was after midnight Pacific Time by the time I left the airport. Looking forward to a great day, watching four halves of football and six teams, five of which I’ve never seen, in three stadiums I’ve never been to.

Meanwhile, Keith is going to be knocking some teams and stadiums off his list, too, so perhaps it will be a good time for us to meet up and compare notes again in the future. Sure, my goal is still to somehow, someday see all 245 teams play, or however many teams it is by then. Still got a ways to go.

I’ll leave the intro short, since I haven’t been to sleep yet and games are starting soon. Would like to be awake again by the time Mount Union and Ohio Northern take the field.

As always, comment on what you see!

  1. L&C’s freshman QB, Keith Welch, just took a bad shotgun snap and ran with it 20 yards to the end zone. Leads P-P 21-14 coming up on halftime.

  2. Justin Feaster has come into the game for Hardin-Simmons and is driving them downfield against Louisiana College. They have a fourth-and-goal from the LC 6, trailing 20-7 early in the fourth … and turn the ball over on downs for the third time today.

  3. Wheaton all over Concordia Wisc: 33-0 with 6 minutes or so in the 2nd quarter. Only negative is 2 missed extra points.

Augustana over UW-Platteville in the 3rd quarter: 24-3

Illinois Wesleyan up big over Aurora: 31-0

Lakeland over Carthage in the 2nd quarter: 14-10

  4. Wheaton scores again with less than 10 seconds in the first half on Sean Norris’ 4th TD pass in the first half. 40-0 with 6.1 seconds in the half.

  5. 372 total yards for Wheaton at the half to 92 for Concordia.

Gingg 15 carries for 79 yards
    Norris 12-18 for 240 yards, 4 TD’s, 0 INTs

  6. TD by Wheaton 2nd team. Wheaton 47-0 over CUW with 6 minutes left in 3rd – last update for that game until it’s final.

  7. Carthages Jones 35-48 passes, 394 yards and 4 TD’s in 3 quarters. Wow! Carthage totally dominating this game from a stats perspective, yet it is only a 36-28 lead entering the 4th quarter.

  8. Ah… digging into the play by play. Lakeland has a 86 yard kick return for a TD and a 55 yard INT return for TD. That would explain how Carthage can have a 540+ to 150 yard advantage and still only be leading by 8 points.

  9. Another TD pass for Carthage with only 30 seconds left, though it looks like it wasn’t from Evan Jones. Injury?

Jones finishes the night 40-53 for 446 yards, 4 TD’s and 1 INT.

Looks like a Carthage win: 50-34

  10. This has been a defensive struggle here at Occidental. Oxy is actually stringing together a couple first downs at a time but has only put together a couple of medium length drives. Oxy is having success with the empty backfield but not as much when trying to run the ball. 14-6 Oxy over Linfield at the half.

  11. Linfield getting on a roll here. This game has a feeling like it could snowball out of control in the Wildcats’ favor. Inside the Oxy. 5.

  12. And Linfield quarterback Aaron Boehme rolls in from the 3-yard line untouched, leading Oxy 24-14. After 20 minutes of the second half, Linfield has 198 total yards, Occidental 5.

  13. Carthage threw a TD pass with 30 sec left? Lakeland was blown out badly in their first two games, sounds like Carthage just couldn’t live with a 9 point win against an 0-3 team that they outgained by 400 yards…
