ATN Podcast 196: Remembering Mike Drass

It was shocking to hear the news come out on Monday afternoon that Wesley football coach Mike Drass, just 57 years old, had died. And while Pat and Keith add their condolences to the outpouring of well-wishes for the Wesley football family and the Drass family, there’s a big legacy of Mike Drass’s to talk about. Hear from two-time D3football.com All-American receiver Larry Beavers, who tells how Drass helped get him back on track after he struggled and failed out of school, plus broadcaster Sean Greene, who has covered the Wolverines for years, joins the crew to talk about Drass and his impact.

ATN Podcast 194: Beating the odds

At the end of an April with a lot of Division III football news, we’re hoping for some even bigger news — an NFL draft pick. Those don’t come every year in D-III, but Wesley offensive lineman Matthew Gono is a prime candidate and we sit down with him to hear about the prospect process and his Draft Day plans on the D3football.com Around the Nation Podcast. 

Franklin & Marshall is trying to buck the trend as well, as the Diplomats have their sights on knocking off Johns Hopkins in the Centennial. The Dips have a new stadium at their disposal as well, and coach John Troxell talks about the process that went into Shadek Stadium and how important a previous coach’s players was in making that happen. But Occidental has the biggest odds to overcome, it seems, with the Tigers trying to rally after playing three games last season and essentially getting a $280,000 fundraising tab it has to pay up from its administration. 

Plus, there’s the two pieces of big news involving Mary Hardin-Baylor, one of which also involves Mount Union. ATN Podcast 186: Blowing it all out

OK, yes, this second round of the playoffs was bad, in an epic way. No doubt. How bad? We’ll talk about that, for sure. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything we can learn from this week’s postseason games, because we definitely got a better look at some teams, even if there are a couple of teams advancing that haven’t yet been playoff tested.
