AIFL

A new six team league called the Atlantic Indoor Football League recently began play with a host of former Division III players on its rosters.

Teams are based in Canton (OH), Erie (PA), Richmond (VA), Raleigh (NC) and Johnstown (PA). A sixth team called the “Ghostriders” appears on the AIFL site but I’m not sure what hometown they haunt.

There are too many Division III players to list here, but take a look at the Canton Legends Roster which reads like a ‘Who’s Who’ of former Mount Union stars, plus former Baldwin-Wallace QB Dan Larlham.

Other noteworthy Division III alums include BC’s Marcus Richardson (Richmond) and Thiel’s TJ Wiley (Johnstown).

  1. The Ghostriders don’t have a home — a team in the league folded and this is what the league whipped up to keep the schedule intact. They’re playing all their games on the road.

Believe they were supposed to have played in Greensboro, N.C.

  2. Sort of like the Lehigh Valley Black Diamonds, an Atlantic League baseball team that played only road games before folding.

  3. I listened to the Richmond Bandits @ Erie Freeze tonight (I know, I need a life) … if was fun to hear Robbie Jenkins (QB from Bridgewater 2000-2002) throw a touchdown pass to Marcus Richardson (WR from Bridgewater 1998-2001) in the fourth quarter. Unforunately the Eagles’ tandem couldn’t lead the Bandits to victory as they fell 55-45. Jenkins finished 8-16 passing for 130 yards (1 TD / 1 INT). Richardon caught three of those for 39 yards at that one score.

I’m thinking I’ll listen to the rest of the games this season … I’m already planning on attending the May 13th Bandits game versus the Canton Legends (a.k.a. All-MUC team)
