Well, at some point we could consider a regional poll but I’d probably have to quit my day job to take on any other projects.

I think it’s fair that Vassar receives no votes and is essentially not in our voters’ Top 43. They don’t have a bad loss but they don’t have any wins that scream out Top 25 status either.

Any thought to doing a top ten for each region? There are some good regional teams who I think get overlooked because they aren’t that well known. Look at Vassar, which has won ten in a row and is 11-1. The only team they lost to, Emerson is 13-1, winning the last 4 despite losing their best player. These smaller schools without the big reputations don’t realy get a look.

Actually, Rochester’s other win was over NYU. Judges and Violets both beat then-#24 Carnegie Mellon to knock the Tartans out of the poll.

David, I was impressed with how many teams are squeezed into #16 (VWC at 192 votes) and #20 (UW-Oshkosh at 168 votes,) only 24 votes down.

The perfect Top 25 has 25 votes separating each position. The perfect #19 is found at 175 votes.

Can you imagine who might get hot in the “Sweet 16? We might see some Cinderellas this year in the Elite 8.

Oh, one of my favorite stories — that fly-by-nighter poll offered to let US merge with them that year. We declined. They disappeared.

The NABC used to do a Top 20 poll but stopped doing it several years ago. I’m not sure if they were running a poll in 2001. Mass-Dartmouth entered the tournament that year at No. 13 in our poll, got a first-round bye, beat unranked Salem State and lost to No. 4 Carthage in the Sweet 16, 90-41.

Another fly-by-night poll existed for a year or so, perhaps in 2002.

actually I was wrong. They might’ve been ranked #2 in another poll besides d3hoops. I checked the polls and it didnt show them higher than 12th or so. I couldve sworn they reached #2 somewhere but i guess i was wrong. sorry

What you stated about it being Umass Dartmouth’s first time ever in the top 10 is wrong. The year they went to the sweet 16 I believe they were #2 in that poll for quite a few weeks. check for yourself
