Right -- I am sure the idea behind Keith's number was to recognize the number of starters in Division III in general, not the overall number of people who started a game this season.

Good point about Braddock. I don't know if he alone would have been enough to close the gap, but it's definitely and unknown, how UST would have done if he'd been healthy. If they'd finished some of those drives midway through the game, everything is very different.

Also two-point conversions that could have been mentioned: UW-Platteville trying and missing at UW-Whitewater, losing 27-26 and missing the playoffs at 8-2, like Concordia-Moorhead did.

And Framingham State in Round 1 of the playoffs, missing a normal PAT (if I recall correctly) and losing 20-19 at Cortland State.

Also Ryan Coleman sent this regarding the number of starters:
Well, I look at it this way... you have n games, right? and each game has 2 teams... each team has 11 defense, 11 offense, a punter and a kicker... so...
24*2 = 48 starters per game...
48 * n = z (number) of starters on the year
z - 1 (missing man formation used by W&J) = actual number of starters used (since the first play from the line of scrimmage on offense would be 10 and not 11)...

Keith, i know you vote Mary Hardin-Baylor as #2 seed but you have to remember that Brenton Braddock got injured basically right away in the Mount Union game.. He is St. Thomas' best running back. I still feel like Mary Hardin-Baylor may be the #2 but St. Thomas was so beat up on running back depth and that is kind of their strength this year.

I enjoyed the final podcast. Thank you for comprehending offenses in the ASC. I am watching Toledo (with all of the UMU links) play Utah State in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. (That just doesn't have the panache that the Stagg Bowl does.) The QB for Utah State is Chuckie Keeton, a sophomore from Houston TX. How did he get to Utah?

7-on-7 is now the "National Game of the State of Texas". The offenses have gotten so good that there are not enough "horses" on defense in D-III to match the offensive talent that is playing.

He did appear -- I remember making note of him being on the field for one snap in the third quarter. I assume that ball security was more important and since Simon was having some success running the ball, they stuck with him.
