Game day: Round of 16

We’re a little more than an hour from kickoff on the three Eastern Time Zone games Saturday, in Alliance, Ohio; Crawfordsville, Ind.; and Cortland, N.Y.

D3football.com will be coming to you live from the home of the Red Dragons with audio at noon, and will cap the day with a broadcast of UW-Whitewater at Willamette at 3 p.m. The defending national champions and the West No. 1 seed have the “airwaves” to themselves in a broadcast that’s not online elsewhere, and doesn’t feature live stats or video (that we know of).

If one of the four Central Time Zone games is what you’re after, we’ll be around to chat and provide updates about those too.

Links to video (from Millsaps and Monmouth), live stats (from Mount Union, Wabash, Mary Hardin-Baylor and North Central) and audio from all eight games are on our scoreboard page.

The floor is open. Have at it.

  1. I think Wartburg’s offense is just good enough to get it done today. Monmouth has played tremendously on offense all year but this will be the toughest defense the Scots have faced. I think the MWC was certainly better this year than in the past, but the level of competition leading up to the playoffs still isn’t good enough for our teams to think about regional championships. The Scots will be very competitive in a loss.

    Wartburg 24
    Monmouth 21

  2. Bit of a different feeling out here as it’s not even 9 a.m. and waiting for games to start. Gotta get some breakfast and find a spot near the stadium with wifi access. 🙂

  3. Ittersagen 70-yard punt return makes it 14-7 Wheaton.

MUC 14-0 at the quarter mark. 12 rushes for 105 yards, incl. 9 for 82 and 2 TDs from Kmic.

    Cortland 7-0

  4. So I won’t post anything about Pete Ittersagen’s TD return? That seems like a barnburner.

Curry missed a field goal with about 4 minutes left in the first quarter.

  5. Hajnos with a wide-open TD catch for Cortland, Red Dragons lead 14-0. Hajnos somehow got wide open in the red zone against the Curry secondary.

  6. Cortland scored again on a pass play to Eric Hajnos.

Rossi and Ren report that Cortland’s first score was aided by a big punt return, and that Curry has moved the ball well between the 20s, but missed a field goal attempt.

    “14-0 10:18 1st half”

  7. UW-Whitewater fans enter the coffee shop here in Salem, Ore. Family of linebacker Tim DePies.

At least I assume so, because one of them is wearing a 60 jersey with DEPIES on the back. 🙂

  8. Hobart is on the verge of finishing off a scoreless quarter at Mount Union, which is significant.

Unless Wabash makes a push soon, the Mount Union game will be the closest of the three going on.

  9. Kmic could break the D3 record soon … 124 yards and needs 139?

Now if he plays 3 more exceptional games, a big if, he could catch Woodhead.

  10. Wheaton just capped a 9 play, 76-yard drive with a Norris-to-Pokorny 14-yard scoring strike.

Wheaton at one point led 14-7 and had 63 yards of TO to Wabash’s 50.

    That count is now 196-51.

As I wrote that, Wabash gained 45 yards on four plays …

  11. w&j drives to the 1 yr line of Milsaps but fails to score on 4th and 1

    Wow.

UMHB’s TD was a 14-yard Saenz to Ervin Johnson pass.

  12. North Central up 7-3 … the only game besides Wabash/Wheaton where both teams have scored.

All three noon EST games are at the half. None closer than 14 points.

This is the “separate the men from the boys” round, traditionally.

  13. Wabash makes a bit more interesting with a score late in the 1st half. If they want a chance today, they are going to have to stop the Wheaton attack namely on 3rd & long.

    28-14 Wheaton at the half

  14. 44 yard TD pass break down in the W&J secondary, guy was wide open in the middle of the field…7-0 Majors 5.16 to go in the 1st
