  1. Final in Crawfordsville: 36-14 Wabash. I know the site is going a little haywire so please take it easy on the refresh button.

  2. Great. Bridgewater beats Catholic, Macon comes back to beat Sydney (I had a feeling this was the year since they’d started playing well of late) and I didn’t get to see it.

    Wonderful!

    Hi four-loss playoff team!

  3. Wow, SJF got bumped too. So Ithaca doubled up.

Wait, every rivalry game was an upset.
    Ithaca > Cortland State
    DePauw > Wabash
    R-MC > H-SC
    Moravian > Muhlenberg.

I wonder if Hanover beat Franklin too.

At least I had my trusty D3football.com to follow it all.

Voting in this week’s poll / not easy = same.

  4. Good Lord. The carnage continues.

Kean rallied to beat Montclair State

This means Ithaca is out of Pool C by way of Pool A, Montclair State, Hampden-Sydney are out by way of defeat.

Maybe it gets so deep two-loss teams start thinking they’re back in the mix … but I don’t think it should come to that. W&J is happy I guess. RPI. I guess we’ll have to do the two-loss team research though. 🙁

Cortland State & Muhlenberg blew chances at No. 1 seeds.

Maybe Willamette West, NC North, MUC East and Millsaps south … and that wasn’t pretty.

    Otterbein needed OT.

Lycoming is in, thanks to Del Val whooping up on Albright.

    Just typing/thinking out loud here.

  5. If Redlands, RPI, UW Whitewater, or UW Stephens Pointe loses then a two loss team will move into Pool C. Pat or Keith, who do you think should be worthy?

  6. Now I see what has fooled someone. They changed the teams on Frostburg’s live stats but left up the Apprentice score.

  7. with W&J pounding Waynesburg 42-9 and all the teams losing today does this maybe sneak them in somewhere?

  8. WOW…..RPI just lost to Merchant Marine….that means that a two loss team will be in the field as a Pool C choice. The selection committe has a very very tough job.

  9. when looking at the two loss teams, I would think that Hartwick, Rowan, and Wooster would be the cream of the crop. Without looking closely at the numbers I think that Hartwick would seem to be the choice. What do you think Pat and Keith?

  10. I hope that Redlands can get in as a Pool C bid.

    What chaos!

Very pleased down here in the ASC.

Thank you Moravian! That is a big help! I have to believe that Millsaps and UMHB vault into 1st and 2nd seed.

    Good job, Bridgewater and RandyMac!

LaGrange gets the award for the biggest turn-around of the season and is probably rewarded with a trip west.

Thank you DePauw! The Wabash OWP/OOWP contribution to the SCAC is a big help.

CNU and Wesley can now have that game that was canceled! I think that they would rather play it in November than September!

Do we see #4-seed HSU go to #2-seed UMHB?

  11. also when looking at two loss teams….

what about depauw and moravian who had big wins..

    what about Johns Hopkins?

Do any of the teams that lost today get consideration (ie Montclair, etc).

    It will be interesting

  12. W&J is happy I guess. RPI.

Hadn’t seen the RPI loss to USMMA when I posted this.

    Wow. 23-21 to a 2-7 team.

The lack of clutch today is epic.

Dream scenario for W&J, Curry, et. al. is in effect.

  13. Redlands too. Thanks Ralph.

LaGrange is in … are they a flight to anywhere? I assume yes, but it would be nice if the Texas twosome could get broken up.

Oh wait, LaGrange to Millsaps, UMHB/HSU, huh? Boo.

Unless they mix and match those, but UMHB and Millsaps are the ones within distance and they are the high seeds/home games.

Oh well, I’ll worry tomorrow. 🙂

  14. Oh, and Pool C Redlands would have to go somewhere too.

Maybe Redlands to Willamette, HSU to Oxy, LaG to Millsaps and a random flier to UMHB 🙂

    Yeah, not happening.

    Later on …

  15. With the Wabash loss today, could Trine possibly get as high as a two seed?

Off top, I doubt it, but it depends where the 1 seeds end up. Certainly MUC and NC are higher-ranked North Region teams, but if one or both becomes a one elsewhere, then maybe.

Stay tuned for the Pat/Gordon analysis later tonight. That’ll run through all the scenarios as the committee would and give spot-on insight.

  16. With U of St. Thomas crushing Northwestern 41 – 0 and the fact they beat Carlton, had the win stolen from them by a “verified replay” touchdown win over St. Johns and lastly a DIII Record 6 overtime loss to the Ole’s wouldn’t you think they might have a long/hard look by the selection committee for a AL berth?

  17. cwru,

Don’t underestimate Trine. I am not sure how many teams in the D3 can say that they control the line as well as Trine on both sides of the ball. Rush D ranked #2 (behind MUC) with only 51.1 yds/game and Rush O avg 191 yds/game. Those kind of stats don’t exactly scream crock?

  18. But two one-point wins over two-win teams do yell crock!

If a two loss team makes it shouldn’t it be Cal Lu whose two losses are to undefeated teams?

  19. I’m very curious about how today’s results will impact the NCAA regional rankings, and how those rankings might affect selections.

In the South region, where the 7th ranked team in the region was also considered on the bubble for the NCAA tourney, the 2nd, 5th, and 6th regionally ranked teams all lost. And so did the 8th ranked team. Does this help Washington & Jefferson *and* Salisbury?

In the East region, the 1st, 3rd, and 5th ranked teams all lost, which may not represent that huge of a shake up when all is told, considering most folks here seemed to believe the #3 team was on the bubble before any games were played today.

  20. pool c

    hardin simmons
    curry
    wash and jeff
    UW whitewater
    Otterbein

Who gets last spot? I think that it is hartwick, rowan, or wooster. Depauw, Cal Luth, and Moravian have a claim with their play today. It is going to be interesting.

  21. Don’t worry about the Grizzlies! They took care of their business with a dominating shutout of Hanover by the score of 34-0 in the wind and rain at Faught Stadium to retain the Victory Bell. The conditions were awful, but the Grizzlies held Hanover to 1 yard rushing for the entire game….1 yard!! My guess is with Depauw beating Wabash, Franlin likely gets a rematch with Trine.

  22. The newly elected Commander in Chief has the right idea:

NEW YORK – It’s not exactly at the top of his agenda, but President-elect Barack Obama says there should be a college football playoff to determine a [BCS] national champion. In fact, he knows exactly what he wants – an eight-team playoff.

In an interview with “60 Minutes,” Obama addresses a subject college football fans have debated for many years, and says he will use his influence to create such a system.

“If you’ve got a bunch of teams who play throughout the season, and many of them have one loss or two losses, there’s no clear decisive winner. We should be creating a playoff system,” he tells CBS’ Steve Kroft in an interview to be broadcast Sunday.

According to Obama’s proposed system, eight teams would play over three rounds to settle the national champion.

“It would add three extra weeks to the season,” he said at the conclusion of a wide-ranging interview. “You could trim back on the regular season. I don’t know any serious fan of college football who has disagreed with me on this. So, I’m going to throw my weight around a little bit. I think it’s the right thing to do.”

  23. Fully admitting I have no idea of the nuances involved in the selection process (or even the actual criteria for that matter). Here are my picks for the field:

    East Region
    1. Mount Union
    2. Ithaca
    3. Hobart
    4. Cortland State
    5. Hartwick
    6. Plymouth State
    7. Curry
    8. Lycoming

    North Region:
    1. North Central
    2. Trine
    3. Muhlenberg
    4. Case Western Reserve
    5. Otterbein
    6. Wabash
    7. Franklin
    8. Thomas More

    South:
    1. Millsaps
    2. Mary Hardin-Baylor
    3. Hardin-Simmons
    4. Washington and Jefferson
    5. Wesley
    6. Christopher Newport
    7. LaGrange
    8. Randolph Mason

    West:
    1. Willamette
    2. Occidental
    3. Monmouth
    4. Wisconsin Stevens Point
    5. Wisconsin Whitewater
    6. Aurora
    7. St. John’s
    8. Wartburg

  24. I don’t think Randolph Mason has played enough Division III teams to be eligible for the Playoffs. I’m pretty sure they aren’t even being discussed tonight.

Seriously though, this is going to be a fun, fun Sunday… following a crazy, crazy Saturday.
