  1. Wooster’s Tony Sutton is going to sign with the Cleveland Browns this weekend, according to the Wooster Daily Record.

  2. Joe Vardon of the Daily Record (sorry, I don’t know formatting codes) may have over-reported this story. According to Scout.com, Sutton has been invited to the Browns’ minicamp but has not been offered a contract. I suppose there must be some sort of a contract, duration of one weekend, to allow a player to participate in minicamp, and maybe that’s what Vardon was thinking of. But Scout.com divides the world of UFAs into two camps: those who have signed 2005 contracts and have been invited to camp, and those who have been invited to camp but are not under contract (“[t]hese players have not signed contracts with the team, but will get an opportunity to show what they can do as tryout candidates.”) Tony Sutton is in this second group.

  3. Dave:

Yeah, I noticed that last night as I tooled around the different NFL sites.

From the lists of undrafted free agents I found, it looks like there are only two who got contracts — Pagel and Ross.

  4. According to today’s Wooster Daily Record, Tony Sutton failed to earn a contract from the Brown’s minicamp. He’s a free agent once again, hoping to catch on with another team. Both the Giants and Jaguars expressed an interest during the draft, but evidently neither has contacted Sutton or his agent since then.

Sutton’s attitude about the whole thing is admirable. “This was a good opportunity, so I can’t be mad about it. I mean, I actually got an opportunity. Things didn’t work out, so I’ve got to keep going. … Just to be able to say I was in an NFL minicamp is a childhood dream. I was in the locker room and practicing for a pro team. Even if I never step on the field again, I’ll always have that.”
