Just looking at the national bracket...

1) Getting 3 plane flights to Rhodes in the south makes no sense at all. The conspiracy theorists could look at that bracket and hear the voices saying,

"No, you don't send Salsibury and/or Shenandoah to my bracket! You cough up the big bucks to send them to them to Mississippi River flood plain, and don't ever put the south regional in western Tennessee again!"

2) Buena Vista getting in a a real plus for the western half of the division. I was glad about that. I thought that BV had the credentials. I just wondered about the "east coast bias" factor that always seems to favor New England.

3) CWRU is another plus. I thought that they did a good job. They were in my list of Pool C bids. I thought that Piedmont and Chapman should be the Pool Bs.

4) Do we call this a down year for the LEC and the NESCAC?

5) I am excited to see the West Regional play out the way that it will. The Region is so good, but so-o-o-o isolated, that no one else in the country knows how good the region is. UT-Tyler's quirky schedule, and down seasons by McMurry and TLU, who are previous "regionally ranked teams" from recent seasons, kept UTT from playing a single Regionally ranked team. Trinity TX played only one game against a regionally ranked team, a 2-1 loss against HSU in San Antonio.

Good pick-up by Texas BB on the ASC Message board.

UTT is only 30-6/33-6. They have been given an extra loss by mistake.

@a163dp - if you're comparing umw vs. rhodes, i agree but record vs. conference champions is not part of the selection criteria (unless those conference champions are regionally ranked at some point)

when compared with methodist, emory and maryville (2 of whom are not ranked), i suspect that umw suffered because of their low sos - despite having a solid regional record (.641), their regional owp+oowp (ncaa) was just .532 and they are currently ranked 104th - m'ville (.647) and emory (.649) both have better in region records and substantially stronger sos (m'ville is ranked 58th with a .551 ncaa mark, emory is ranked 70th with a .544 ncaa mark and umw is ranked 104th with a .532 ncaa mark - methodist has a lower winning percentage (.576), but a tougher schedule (43rd/.557)

I believe UMW should be in the south mix also. Mary Washington is 10-3 vs conference champions. With PSU-Altoona still playing in their conference championship.

@scowbucker - you actually ignored the other primary criteria which i posted...oglethorpe wouldn't be in this discussion because they have a sub .500 winning %

of the three schools i compared, rhodes is better than the others only in oowp (which is, in part, a product of having a significantly lower owp)
